TNG/Voyager What If

Everyone loves a what if question when it comes to Star Trek. I do at least, I don't know about the rest of you. I'm not sure if this would fit better in the TNG forum or Voyager, but either way.

So here it is. What if it had been the Enterprise-D that had been ordered to the bad lands to track down the Marquis and not Janeway with Voyager. Would Picard and company have had any better luck getting home faster and without time travel like Voyager? I think the biggest problem I see is that assuming the Enterprise took similar casualties as Voyager did in the first episode, it wouldn't have had the EMH Doctor, but in theory Beverly had several doctors under her. I also think Picard would have made Data First Officer before Chakotay. Could the Enterprise-D have remained out a space dock for repairs and supplies as long as Voyager did and not have started to face mechanical problems?

Of course if most of his command staff survived, the Ent-D would have made it back to the Alpha Quadrant in a matter of days. Especially if the boy-genius Wesley was on board to save them.

Agreed. Enterprise D had a lot of smarties on board. Voyager just didn't have the brainpower, as well as the ship power, to get back as soon.

But Voyager did have Seven's magical nanoprobes... LOL... and a missing Borg Baby... and a magical unlimitless supply of shuttles... and a crew of literally thousands even though it was on paper, only 140 odd.

That is part of the beauty of Voyager, granted it was a really great ship. Not as big, with not as much power, with a more seasoned Capt. The reason that I like it the premise is that it is a smaller ship, with fewer resources, A Capt on her first mission, which was only supposed to only last 2-3 weeks, so they did not take as many of the supplies as they may have been able to if the mission were to last a few months, not just a few weeks. That is part of the struggle that made Voyager such a great show. It may not have been as good if all their problems/troubles were already sloved due to the fact that they were more set up for the situation that Voyager found themselves in...

I think Picard's first question would have been "Why is a European nobleman of hereditary rank hiding in The Badlands at a time like this?"

The Enterprise would probably have faired better with some of the "bad guys" Voyager encountered, such as the Kazon. The Enterprise was alot bigger then Voyager, about 3x the size.

What show were you watching?

Interesting - if the Ent D got to Borg space and rescued Seven, then got back to the Alpha Quadrant to stop the First Contact assimilation plan...that only Picard could've helped them with...

We'd see Seven in a uniform and not a painted-on-suit:

Hmm....how about a fanfic on this? Ent-D gets sent to Delta Quadrant, Voyager doesn't. Ent D rescues Annika Hansen, and Picard gives her a temporary commission of ensign. They reach back to the Alpha Quadrant in time to meet up with Soran and crash the D, the Ent E gets set up, and Annika is part of the crew.

Picard would have been smart enough to have Caretaker send the Enterprise home, while leaving behind a timed detonation device to destroy it.

End of problem, no 7 years of fake drama.

And that is also where the show went wrong. I don't see the struggle you refer too. The writing resolved the Maquis part of the plot too early on and killed any drama on that show. That showed me early on that we were just watching TNG with just new and cheaper actors.

Voyager had a great setup with CARETAKER..and just seemed to go from one bumpy headed/human planet to the next, dealing with the same issus that TNG did; just on the other side of the galaxy. BORING...

I've longed thought that instead of mediocre movies and VOY, TNG could've continued much like ER and Law and Order by simply transferring and changing up the crew of the Enterprise-D. Perhaps with Riker as Captain, a new first officer, etc. This might've been better than the TNG-lite we got with VOY.

Enterprise would definitely have made it home faster. I'm sure that Picard, unlike Janeway, would have been willing to sleep with Q to get his crew home. (C'mon you know he wanted to.)

Picard would have asked if not begged Q to take them home, something Janeway never considered.

heck, janeway was given the offer by Q and because it would have meant a personal sacrifice, she said no
