TNG & Voyager LCARS

Re: New DS9 Era Graphics

Great work Joe, as always. I think you'd be fine for any graphics work across any genre, really...

Re: New DS9 Era Graphics

Re: New DS9 Era Graphics

Wow a graphic about the Teplan Blight never would think to see something like that. Good Job

Re: New DS9 Era Graphics

JoeRalat - I don't comment enough on your work, but I have to say, not only is this a great LCARS dispaly, it is also showing that your skills are improving as you go. Look at some of your earlier work (no less inspired, by the way), and you will see the raw talent is there. Now that you have some experience under your belt, it is really starting to show.

Keep up the good work!

Re: New DS9 Era Graphics

No problem, man, your stuff always impresses. Really looking forward to seeing what you have for the Romulans.

Nice -- looking forward to the follow-on Romulans...

Re: TNG & Voyager LCARS

Hey Jose,
Good work on the LCARS...I like. :) Have you done any animated stuff? The very first post would look good on an LCD monitor full-screen, acting as a TNG computer display.

Keep up the good work!

James

Re: TNG & Voyager LCARS

Yeah I made an animation of that first one.

Voyager Pooltable!
Here is version 1 of the pooltable graphic. :D Its still a wip. I will be making this table. I am trying to keep in simple. I am also working on blueprints for this.

Re: TNG & Voyager LCARS

You know, Joe, I never have looked at LCARS before, not even sure what it mean. But this material of yours is pretty good. Is it meant to be used as a windows background? Can we use it like if it isnt?

Re: TNG & Voyager LCARS

You're going to make an actual, physical table that uses that graphic? 8)

Just a usability suggestion.. shouldn't the text and the buttons be oriented towards the long sides of the table, instead of the narrowest side? This is assuming it's used in a similar way to the TNG pooltable.

Yes its going to be a real table. As for the controls, Well it fits the design better the way it is. Also the I will also replace the button on the top with better controls.

Not sure what you mean, You mean wallpaper?

This might help

Re: TNG & Voyager LCARS

Very nice, JoeRalat. Are there any resources about the functional working of the LCARS-style user interface? Maybe a "rule-book/guide-book" describing what the different layers, colors, mean? While we see people operating then on screen, they've always seemed a bit mysterious to me. (i.e. a big orange stripe curves down, with a series of numbers inside; under that, a yellow stripe curves down and has virtual buttons, etc.) It seems that there is a preset "template" that keeps the interface unified. (sort of like in Windows, you have standard buttons, sliders, etc.).

In other words, you and others know "the correct technical way" to map the elements out. Any resources or help would be appreciated.

Again, great work.

Re: TNG & Voyager LCARS

Right now no. The best I can do are video tutorials that I have on my site.

Here is a new graphic for the large padd. Its still a wip. Everything was done in Illustrator.

Re: TNG & Voyager LCARS

It's nice work, although I do hate LCARS with all the random numbers all over the place.

It's numerical technobabble.
