Spoilers TNG vet confirms discussions of character appearing in S2

The interview was okay. But I feel kinda bad for Burton, because he really should have been in this season.

I mean, Picard is not particularly close to Geordi of course. But he was Data's best friend. And he was also very close with Hugh. It would have made logical sense for him to be the only regular from TNG to be involved in some way. Maybe working with Hugh on The Artifact, or at least stopping through?

Now, LaForge will get some sort of cameo, but after the show bid farewell to two of his closest friends. Hopefully he'll at least get a chance to reflect upon it. I'm guessing Geordi will be bummed.

Totally agree Geordi should have been in this season, and not only because he is my favorite character. (I wonder how many of us there are!).

I'm not adverse to the TNG regulars showing up (well, except maybe for Wesley), but if they try to fit them all in seasons 2 and 3, I fear it might distract from the narrative, and also hamper much-needed development for the new characters.

OTOH, they could meet 3 TNG characters at the same time, and limit their presence to one or two episodes... They could play poker with Jean-Luc!

I don't think it's making the universe too small for Picard to see all of his old comrades. He has a small ship and a small crew. They're going to need help from others. Who else is he going to call on other than old friends? He became a paper pusher not long after he was promoted to admiral and left the Enterprise, then he sat on the sidelines for 14 years and allowed himself to become a relic.

Raffi was apparently the only new friend Picard made in Star Fleet, and he barely managed to save that relationship when he needed something from her. The only new friends he has now are his new crew and his two Romulan friends back on Earth. It's going to make sense for him to look up all of the old gang at one point or another. It may be nostalgia, but it's also the only way he can get things done because of the choices he made after he resigned from Star Fleet in protest.

I would hope that PIcard has new friends in 20 years. Otherwise that would be incredibly depressing. I'm OK wiht Geordi coming back if the story requires it but I think that having new characters and new friends is an important part of Picard's journey right now.

That was the problem with the TNG films (and to a lesser extent, TNG itself.) These people were together, on two different ships no less, for far, far longer than they logically should have been. Considering there was even a war going on part of the time, none of those people should still have been serving with Picard. Riker, Data, Worf and Geordi should have been promoted to other ships, possibly even being in command of them. Instead they stayed together for 15 years, with little to no promotions or change in jobs. That's just not realistic. To have them all back together on the same ship again would stretch credibility to the max.

You know, now that Picard is synthetic, it would certainly make sense he'd want Geordi around. After all, if something goes wrong, best to have someone with mechanical and engineering skills you trust.

Just because they include the old characters doesn’t mean it’s a sequel. I mean, hi, have you seen the first season? How similar is it to TNG? Obviously they might have brought back characters from before: IT’S CALLED PICARD. But that’s a far cry from a sequel. This TNG fan would not think of it as a cozy continuation of the earlier series.
