tng to voyager confusion

Hey, don't disrespect that Klingon power pony tail she wears in season 3. It looks very good with the white pant suit. ;-)

ack, just finished "Warlord" in season 3 (where kes is possessed by tiernan). i was so excited during the lunch with neelix when she dumped his liver spot having butt, but then the ending where she didn't actually dump him, boo! i think she (okay, tiernan) made a lot of good points about how neelix is (that he's okay with her having friends so long as she spends all her time with him). i mean, come on, not even in the delta quadrant could his stalking, ugly, creepy, possessive, insecure, whiney, untalented ass keep a chick like kes after she gets off that planet where she was a slave. they either need to ugly her up or de-douche neelix to make this plausible.

de-douche neelix
:guffaw:

Take heart, DL. Although the breakup in Warlord was somewhat confusing, it seems to have stuck. It'll become more clear down the road. For now, be happy that you will no longer have to hear the word "sweeting" or see Kes and Neelix kissing.

You wanna know the really weird thing? I'm up to Season 4 now and for the past two or three episodes, Neelix has been . . . not annoying. Also, he's acting as if he's got at least moderate intelligence. It's freakin' me OUT!

thank god the break up stuck, i was so not looking forward to another 4 seasons of neelix stalking kes. i am also glad to hear that he is de-douched a bit in future seasons because as it stands now, watching him get down in the holodeck to the caribbean music with the volleyball team was pretty much my limit. all he needed was to fist pump and it would have been full on jersey shore.

okay, wait...is chakotay in love with janeway? why is he being so weird about q's request to mate with janeway? "captain, i know i have no right to feel this way" etc. and wtf is that k'ehleyr as q's mate?

YES it was the same actress (Suzie Plakson) who played K'Ehleyr, Lady Q, and also Dr. Selar in her one appearance on TNG. She is made of awesome.

I hope that the Neelix de-douching trend will continue. I watched Day of Honor last night, and it's been about three or four episodes now since I have shouted the word "AIRLOCK" at the screen.

I know a lot of people disagree with me on this, but, IMHO, Chakotay is head over heels for Janeway and she thinks of him only as a friend for whom she feels some passing physical attraction from time to time. That's one of the reasons I feel sorry for Chakotay. It's gotta be rough to face constant rejection like that.

:sigh: I guess that ends my final hope, that I might find a nice girl on the other side of the galaxy who appreciates those qualities about me.

They had the bouncy-bouncy while they were stuck together on that planet in Resolutions. You'll learn of this when the space dinosaurs show up and question the monkey, who was feeling voyeuristic that night and watched through the window.

I didn't care much for Neelix at first either. By the end of the series, I really liked him. I think that, despite his sugary niceness, it was his undying loyalty that was the quality that endeared him to me.

I'm very new here, and I have to say I am a little surprised at how hated a character he is by most fans (along with Chakotay). I guess it really is true that nice guys finish last.:(

woah, "nice"? are we watching the same series? i can see him as nice in that serial killer "i never would have suspected him" kind of way. ;) i mean, the guy straight up stalks kes, you have noticed this, right?

another quick question, if not polluting the timeline with technology from the future is such a big deal, why did they let the doctor keep the mobile holo-emitter? as much as i enjoy seeing him "footloose and fancy free" (which his delivery of just cracked me up), it seems like they're being sort of one sided about the whole technological timeline bit. because of that, it was entertaining to see the federation (voyager) get pwned by their own policy (temporal prime directive). good stuff. do we still say pwned? i dont even know.

I sure haven't and am wondering, whether you actually watched the same series. He might not always have done the right things regarding his relationship with Kes, but he wasn't a stalker either. Care to elaborate why you see him in that light?

I'll take a piece of that action (as one who more or less agrees with the point); without bringing up any specifics every time Neelix didn't "do the right thing regarding his relationship with Kes" he took it to the extreme. There were times early on I thought he was going to beat Kes for her imagined infidelities. There isn't any middle ground to his character in this regard. It starts out as fairly obvious jealousy but then escalates into full scale paranoia and obsession that is only quelled after something equally...extreme happens to off set it.

largely agreed, withers. as a chick, i would be personally put off by his crazy borderline 'i hate you, don't leave me' antics and can't believe kes put up with it as long as she did. im a little sad that as smart as she is it takes a possession to cut the ties. i wonder though if tieran got those thoughts from her memories and if she would have broken it off on her own eventually or not.

Hmmm I find it very interesting that you see him that way. I really can't recall my exact impressions the first time I watched the series, other than he was so syrupy and yap-yap-yappy that he annoyed me.

My perception of the Kes thing was that she adored him equally. He did get really jealous at times, but in some ways he ended up being justified in that (as far as Tom Paris was concerned). He also deserves points for being very "mature" after the break-up. He didn't act like a jerk around her post relationship.

Anyway, Kes departs fairly early on, and that annoying jealousy quality goes away.

All I can say at this point is I'd be interested to see if you still view him the same way at the end of the series.

I thought Neelix was flat out creepy in Twisted, when he got so excessively angry about Kes knowing the location of other crewmembers' quarters. I'd be comfortable calling that behavior "stalkerish" or at least "controlling in a scary way".

true, im only on season three, so i'm hoping that his character evolves (and, according to amg, he definitely does). i have to disagree that his jealousy was ever even remotely "justified", for example, getting into a fist fight with tom? yeah, tom liked kes, maybe kes even had a little yen for tom (who wouldn't after years of a liver spotted junk trader?) but she never acted on it and he just went nuts. even if she had acted on it it doesn't justify punching a dude unless, of course, you're 14 and your rep is at stake ;)

I'm only on season four myself, so I'm not defending Neelix wholeheartedly at this time. I'm just sayin' I no longer instantly want to see him phasered the second he comes on screen. :)

yes! particularly since the doctor establishes or at least implies early on that kes has an eidetic memory. of course she's going to remember where quarters are - if she has seen it once, she'll remember, psycho neelix.

I'd say they let him keep it because confining the best character on the show to just a couple of areas on the ship would have really limited his usefulness. Some of the best eps of Voyager would not have happened if not for the mobile emitter.

Besides, that decision goes right along with Janeway's constant indecisiveness as to whether or not she wants to follow Starfleet protocols. ;)
