tng to voyager confusion

Poor Kes. I miss her.

Hey, Data Lover. I just watched "Mortal Coil" last night and I decided that I like Neelix now. Kind of. Anyway, I don't hate him like I used to. Of course, I will take that back if I see him reverting to his old ways. You'll be watching that one soon-ish, and I hope you'll post here about your opinion of it.

okay...just watched 'the mortal coil' (i know im slacking on the pace, but my husband is home now and i'd honestly rather hang out with him). anyhow, we watched the mortal coil last night, and i have to say, i still don't like neelix :(. my husband had already seen the episode (he is a higher level trekkie than i) and let me know that despite my 'pleaselethimbedead" and then 'pleaselethimstaydead' pleadings he would live, and i was sad. it seemed like instead of endearing him to me, it was an attempt at convincing me he wasn't annoying and crew bitch, except that he was and is.

You need to go back and watch the scene in Meld where Tuvok Strangles Neelix to death just to recover your equilibrium.

The two number one rules to tolerating Neelix are both all about Ethan Phillips... One HE WANTS TO BE ANNOYING, and two, but really still one, according to Ethan, and if you listen to the tone in the conversation Neelix had with Q in Deathwish... Neelix is utterly and madly in love with Janeway, but he's accepted that she wouldn't ever ever take him as a mate, so our hedgehog hasn't bothered to inform her, much like Linear's "relationship" with Delenn on babylon 5 if you've ever dipped your toe into that cesspool of mellodrama. Actually, trying to impress his girl (Janeway? Gilr? **Shudder!**.) almost explains why he was willing to deal drugs just to make her life easier.

Datalover, I am glad to hear your husband is back home. :-D

And ooooh yes, I have noticed some weird gross Neelix sweatin' Janeway vibes myself.

Ethan's character on Benson was way more gross, the snapshot of "Pete" during the opening credits had the back end of a greasy sandwich falling out all over his shirt which he then tried to clean off with the back of his fist, got bored and then went about on his business forgetting about the stain...

And he (Pete, his character.) bedded, married, and impregnated Benson's sweet angellike secretary "Denise". It was just like in the office with Jim and Pam but 25 years earlier... Actually? The Office's cast seems to resonate well with bensons cast that it's almost exactly the same set of archetypes!

But Ethan has proven that he can play a love interest convincingly.

Dude should have gone for the brass ring and...

remember how in M*A*S*H* when both Trapper, and henry left then stole a kiss from Hotlips dipping the heck out of her... Did Radar follow the tradition?

I suppose if he wasn't leaving because so girl was in love with him he might of let his heart out when he departed but much ado about nothing.

What always wierded me out was that Nana Visitor has such a keen resemblance to to a young Didi Kahn. Seeing her with Rene on DS9 was a little surreal. And even though you can barely recognize him in the Odo makeup, his voice makes his face shine though if you grew up watching Benson religiously. Which I did. Hell, I didn't get around to buying a DVD player until 2004. You know what my inspiration was? Soap Season 1 was released on DVD. Had to have it.

Your Benson/Office connection really is kind of accurate too. I never thought of that before. But have you ever noticed that if you take the Mary Tyler Moore Show and swap the personalities of Mary Richards and Lou Grant, then give Rhoda a job at the station you get Murphy Brown?

And I don't mean the same archetypes, it's the same bloody show. The balding newswriter turned on-air personality who is secretly in love with Mary/Murphy. The airheaded anchorman who always talks in his anchorman voice. And Murphy, totally a female Lou Grant the same way Miles is a male Mary Richards. SAME show. No one notices it though.

I'm feeling the urge to watch Benson. Or at least wander into the photoshop thread and request a manip with Benson as Tuvok and Krause as Janeway.
