I guess this really was "Rasmussen"'s first-ever trip, with poor control over where and when he would end up. Had he tried to cash in on baseball results, the 24th century would have had next to nothing to offer anyway: with the death of the sport, obtaining historical records might have been a real pain.
Also, one wonders. We know history in Trek heals itself after minor mishaps. Would baseball results really "hold", or would each game play a bit differently in subtly different timelines, ruining efforts at exploitation?
