If they are talking about a new show, in 2390-ish, in the style of TNG, with guest appearances from Bermantrek characters but a mostly new cast, I'm in. If they want to make the Simpsons parody of a TOS movie a reality and do a Geriatrek, no way.

Well, this is the future. Life expectancy in the 24th (almost 25th!) century is, what, 110? 120? Assume McCoy's comment about being 137 and "not havin' died" suggests that it's not much higher.

Anyway, actors who are in their 60s and 70s are mid-life characters in series. There's no reason to impose our societal constraints on them. As long as the writers play this up and make us believe it's not a problem, there's no reason it wouldn't fly.

I just don't want this to be some depressing final send-off where Picard dies. I like having my heroes ride off into the sunset and hate this trend of bringing back our heroes just to dirty them up then kill them (Star Wars, X-Men, etc)

Um.. That was my point. Nothing that a good actor can't overcome, as long as they have an equally adept writer and director to guide them.

Even in a world where you have your mid life crisis at 70, is that really what you want for your beloved TNG characters? To have stayed at the same point in their careers for 25 years, only to resume at the same point they were before?

Do we want a full cast of actors who need CGI to do a minor fight scene? Do we want all the TNG cast to occupy the same positions they did a long time ago? Do Trek fans really want just to live in the past or do we want the ideas of the past to be translated to the present and relevant to the future?

I love the old TNG/DS9/Voy characters, but I don't want to see a show that only uses them. I want to see a show that preserves their ideas and makes occasional good use of them.

I want the same thing now that I wanted in 2001 instead of Enterprise, that I wanted last year instead of Discovery. I want a show that keeps the ideology of the Star Trek we know but tells new stories with new characters. If CBS wants finally to give me that, I will be very happy.

So it was okay for TOS to take on the Vietnam War with "A Private Little War," or TNG to do drug abuse in "Symbiosis," but heaven forbid they keep that up today?

Perhaps, but writers, just by virtue of being working professionals, don't guaranteed us quality work.

Also, I think there's a much finer line between writer and fan than you think. Fandom is usually the gateway to becoming a writer, although not all writers tasked with writing for a property were already fans of said property.

Imitation tends to be the first step along the creative process across all art.

Not sure about this. While it sounds exciting, TNG was a late 80's, early nineties product, and adapting it to today would probably make it a quite different series. But watching a new 'TNG' series with the original cast might disappoint me since I would (subconsciously) be expecting more episodes in the vein of old TNG- (but of course with modern quality production values), and that simply wouldn't happen. That's not even considering the age of the actors, and the credibility of them still (or again) being together on the same ship after 25 years, and so on.

No matter how much I love and still watch this show, perhaps it's better to leave this where it belongs - in the past, and assume our heroes went on with their lives. Or go for it and make a radical 'TNG' remake with an entirely new cast without being constrained too much by the past.

I have to say I'd prefer a recast and continuation of a series in the vein of TNG, but to hell with continuity.

It would be politically contentious and I can guarantee that anything remotely resembling the spirit of the original will be taken as having an agenda in complete denial of the reality of said original, but I think that is something I can more than live .

Well we've had revivals of Prison Break, The X Files, Will & Grace - it would be good to get this, however if Sir Pat is bringing other veterans, I'd hope to see faces from DEEP SPACE NINE and VOYAGER as well as THE NEXT GENERATION.

We saw a lot of old faces in RENEGADES but the storyline wasn't that great

NEMESIS was not a satisfactory end of an era, so I hope this comes to fruition - even if the showrunner is the guy who wrote BATMAN & ROBIN!

I suspect a full reunion won’t happen but a story with some or most of the crew would be great.

I suspect some of these ideas are being floated in the press to see what the reaction is. This is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve heard an animated project and a starflert academy project may be in the works.

As much as I'd like to see the whole crew back I don't think it'll happen. Stewart has expressed interest in the past of doing a show which included cast members from all three TNG era shows. Maybe they're thinking about doing something along those lines.

Oh, lord. I cannot think of another instance in which that might happen. My feeling is I hung up the space suit and left all that behind a long time ago. Maybe if someone came up with a brilliant idea, I’d do it. One thing that might interest me would be to bring all the existing casts of “Star Trek” from the last 50 years together for one big story.

I'm excited about the new series being post-Nemesis. In the 24th century. The Pocket Books continuity would go for a toss, but that i can live with. But I don't want to see Trek overkill that earlier put it on ice for nearly a decade and a half.

Not true. Three actors portrayed Worf's son, Alexander. Only the first, Jon Paul Steuer, who potrayed him in his first ever appearance only, died. Both Brian Bonsall (who played Alexander for most of his appearances across TNG's run) and Marc Worden (who played the character on Deep Space Nine) are both still alive.

As much as I'd love everyone from TNG to come back, I'm fearing the result would be not as good as the original TNG. There's a big ruining risk. And honestly, yes I'm concerned about what would happen to some characters who definitely couldn't be played by their original actor anymore...I mean, did you see Brent Spiner ? Apart from having him perform in advanced motion capture and then use realistic 3D animation, he couldn't look like Data anymore :-/

So...yeah. Of course I'd dream of more TNG content. But only good content.
