TNG post-Nemesis novels: Any must-reads out there?

I recommend all of the post-Nemesis TNG novels as must-reads, save for Resistance and Before Dishonor.

The Titan series is one of the best ones out there (especially the first and the third entries, and even the second and fourth are also really good reads as well).

Definitely, definitely, definitely get Q&A.

Orions Hounds was so bad after I read it
I've heard a few people complain about OH "because Troi is in it too much, being all empathic", or because it picks up a plot thread from "Encounter at Farpoint", but I thought it was very well written. What did you dislike about it?

Hey, don't get me wrong. I like Christopher's work. But I can't take the Troi screaming and yelling. Give me a story, not another headache book and change my mind about Troi. She is a weak character because of her ability and I guess because it is one characteristic that is so "out there" for me to get with out of all TNG characters I have come to know and love (minus Pulaski which I can't stand). She should be in a supporting role unless it is a strong story.

When I say off the radar, I just mean, there are no books coming out within the next 4 to 5 months. I am having problems adjusting to the so few books per year we get now compared to ~8 years ago when they were flying on shelves as a new comer to the TNG novels.

And no, we are not all doomed. It is my opinion and it is what it is. :techman:

I tried in SoD to show how Troi's abilities are not a liability. I don't think she's weak. I think she's nice. There's difference.

And, for the record, I think Orion's Hounds is AWESOME. I'm thrilled CB is writing the next installment. M&M wrote the set up and wrapped up a bunch of old threads in the process. I thought they did a fantastic job with all of it but CB's book is the first one that is TOTALLY TITAN-centric. I think it's the model for what comes after and, frankly, coming in second or even fourth behind it is fine with me.

Just as each audience member enjoys different aspects of this kind of fiction, the writers do as well. I am always surprised at a good many of the criticisms of the various books. Not because they're invalid but because they often address issues that simply never crossed my mind once.

The fun of the Titan series is that it's an attempt to get back to basics with the whole boldy going aspect. How each writer interprets that will be different, of course. But, in a way, that's part of the fun too. There are a lot of Trekkers out there. By having a diverse stable of writers I think Pocket does a fine job serving all masters.

Any hints about the new story, CB?

Hmm... wonder if Lavena will get some good screentime (so to speak).

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

I expect (and hope) that Torvig and Chaka, two of Christopher's creations will get more development. I'd like to see more of Orilly Mallar one day as well.

I hope Bralik gets a bit more to do, she's one of my favorites but sadly wasn't used that much yet.

^Yeah, she kinda dissapeared after the first or second book. I think there might have been a passing reference or two but definitely not the amount of "screen time" as she had in the first one (or two).

Oh, yes, we need some more Lavena development - we've not had any since Orion's Hounds, really - and that wasn't that profound.

I still miss Nidani Ledrah, there must be a way to bring her back for a novel - even if it must involve timetravel or alternate dimensions.
