TNG on Blu-ray?

How long do you think it will take paramount to put TNG on blu-ray, hopefully no too long with the new trek film coming out soon. Perhaps more extras like deleted scenes if possible.

Hopefully as long as it takes to "remaster" it.

That's how it will have to be.

TNG *must* be remastered if it is ever to be aired in HD or released on Blu-Ray. It would be literally impossible to do either of these things with TNG as it is.

This is because all special effects, and editing, were done on videotape. And as we all know, or should know, the native resolution of videotape is much, much lower than HD.

So assuming even that all film elements for TNG still exist (and I think they do), all effects would have to be recreated from scratch, just like they're doing with TOS.

This is also true for DS9 and Voyager, for exactly the same reasons.

(Enterprise, of course, would require no such remastering; it's airable in HD right now.)

Well, they could release it on Bluray, but it would not look any better without remastering. There would simply be no point to it.

I think it would be nice just to be put on Bluray in standard def with a season per double-layer blu-ray disc with a few new extras like maybe some deleted scenes and audio commentaries now that Berman is out.

I know that they've done some FX tests with remastering it into HD (I read that in the news somewhere). However the project is not yet underway. Therefore I'd guess at two years from now at the earliest.
