TNG Era Runnabout Type

Patrickivan

Fleet Captain
Newbie
So I wanted to try something TNGesque, but the curves have always scared me off... And it's a shame because I really like the E-D and wished we could have seen more along those design lines. But oh well...

So here is a Runnabout type vessel in that design inspiration. It's obviously very E-D like in lines. It has a small crew for short trips and missions. I still have to work out some inside details, the landing gear, and some external RCS and signage.

Any thoughts are of course welcomed.

Damn that's very cool..
for some reason, it reminds me a bit of Jefferies original
TOS shuttle design. (perhaps because it "fits" more with it's parent ship?).
Nice.

Thanks man!

I have some more work done. The warp nacelles... They took almost as long as the ship...

Here's a small update. Been working on the inside. Added some consoles, rooms, and a couple of bunk beds.

Note the curved consoles with chairs built into the opposite side and see if you can guess where I was inspired from...

You'll note the yellow doors. The access ramp decends from that point.

It's got to be either some of Probert's concept art for the E-D bridge, or Futurama! :D Looks good either way!

Very cool design man.:) Was just wondering if you had an idea for the class name? I have always liked these small utility vessel designs like the Saber, etc. Keep up the cool work. :bolian:

You're right... from one of Probert's bridge concepts in the Art of Star Trek. And indeed- Futurama is a cool show!

I don't know about the class name yet. I'm open to ideas. I certainly intend for it to have a decent range and speed. After all, look at the size of those warp nacelles!

Here's a wee update. I worked on the transporter and console this morning. THere's quite a bit of detail in that transporter pad. I'm pretty happy with this little two person mover.

She's still not done, but here's a little something. I like this paint texture on this. I've decided that this ship is a little older. It was decomissioned from Starfleet and secured by a NGO science group. The paint job has fallen to disarray, primarily from all the planet side parking... They're great in space, but atmosphere is a bitch when the deflectors are off...

Patrick,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like you took the Ent-D's Captain's yacht as the inspiration for this runabout. If so, that's a pretty darn cool idea :) Looking forward to more updates!

This would have been great as the E-D captain's yacht! Surely there would have been some way to hide the nacelles inside the saucer section so we couldn't see them while it was docked.

Nonetheless, the DS9 runabout WAS next generation era!

How does this ship compare, size-wise, to the DS9 Runabout? The DS9 ships seemed to cram compartments and equipment into every cubic inch of the ship, IIRC.

very nice

Thanks!

Indeed it was. And I considered this a possible captain's gig, but it is a little large. Though not out of the realm of possibility.

Agreed. And while the E-D had plenty of room for it, it's not a small ship.

I like this smoother version. It is a great design.

Thanks!

The runnabout's dimensions are given to be 23.1 metres long, 13.7 metres wide, and 5.4 metres high.

This vessel is 37 metres long, 27.5 metres wide, and 8 metres high- another 1.5 metres higher with the landing gear down.

In an earlier shot of the interiour, I've devoted a fair amount of space for a 5 member crew.

2 people in each aft cabin on staked enclosed bunk beds inspired by the runnabout. 1 larger room for the commander. 1 common room. The working part of the ship looks spacious above, but I have since put in a transporter pad, work stations, and changed the M/AM reaction chamber completely.

I'm presently working on landing pads and an extended door.

I'm also considering small phaser emitters, but the location is based on the available space.

I still need a class name and what kind of tasks this ship is suited for.
