TNG during the Dominion War

Kirr

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
I apologize if this topic has already been covered elsewhere, though I did do a search and didn’t see anything else referencing it.

I’ve enjoyed the few books that I’ve read covering the adventures of TNG crew during the Dominion War, and often wondered if there were any others that I missed. I’m currently in the middle of reading Articles of the Federation, and there seems to be a number of references to the Enterprise E having an encounter with the Gorn (involving Cestus III) during the Dominion War, which got me to thinking if this was a reference to some novel I missed. But the only novel I’ve found with the Gorn and TNG is Requiem which doesn’t seem to be right (but maybe that’s it).

So my general question is, given the list below of books I have read, are there any others that cover the Enterprise E during the Dominion War?

TNG: Behind Enemy Lines by John Vornholt
TNG: Tunnel Through the Stars by John Vornholt
The Battle of Betazed by Susan Kearney and Charlotte Douglas
Tales of the Dominion War edited by Keith Decandido

Having typed that out, I’m actually surprised by how few novels there are in this timeframe, so I’m hoping there are others out there that I’ve missed. Any help is appreciated.

The references in Articles to the encounter with the Gorn is from the WildStorm comic book The Gorn Crisis, written by Kevin J. Anderson & Rebecca Moesta, with art by Igor Kordey.

As for stories that cover the double-E during the Dominion War, here's a list of all the Pocket Books stories involving Picard and the gang that take place in that two-year period. One caveat is that some stories don't directly involve the events of the war, but take place during it (like the movie Insurrection).

Thanks to you both for clearing up the Gorn reference. I wasn't even thinking along the lines of a comic book.

Keith, thanks for the list - that's perfect. I've been planning to read Immortal Coil for some time now, so this only increases my interest. I had no idea that The Q Continuum took place during this timeframe nor that so many stories from The Sky's the Limit took place during the war. I'll be happy to try and catch up on all of these. Thanks.

By the way, Articles of the Federation is great. It's not the first book I've read of yours (I read your DS9 Gateways book and Q&A) but it is my favorite of what I've read by you so far.

Surprise! ;)

You're very welcome. I had already compiled that list for the Enterprise-E timeline I did for the final eBook in the Slings and Arrows miniseries. :)

It's just the two stories from The Sky's the Limit, and both are also episode sequels: Geoff's to "The Defector," mine to "Chain of Command."

And with both Immortal Coil and The Q-Continuum, the war is very much a background element. These aren't really "Dominion War stories," so much as "stories that happen to take place at the same time as the Dominion War." :)

Thanks so much!

I would add that the Shatnerverse novels Spectre and Dark Victory are also not exactly about the Dominion War which is also in the background with those two books.

Yeah, I figured as much - these novels just tell some more of the story of what the Enterprise E was doing during the Dominion War - not necessarily directly involved in those events.

It's funny, I gave up on the Stanerverse novels after Spectre - I'm not sure I even remember that one well enough to say if I realized it took place during the Dominion War. I just wasn't taken with the start of that new arc. However, I've often thought of trying again with Captain's Blood/Glory since I've been told of the Romulan angle in those books (and I'm a sucker for Romulan stories).

I'm currently reading the Shat-Mirror Trilogy. There are no direct Dominion appearances in it, but several references to the war going on in the background. The initial Ent-E mission in the first book is looking for suspected Dominion activity but it turns out to be something else instead.

I haven't read the Tunnel Sky 2 parter in a long time, but I remembered it being pretty good. And that was definitely a Dominion War episode.

I know there has been a lot of different Dominion War books but any chance that there will at least be something on the Battle of Rigel, like a flashback or something?

I enjoyed looking through Fires of Armageddon, The Dominion War Sourcebook, from Last Unicorn [that never was.]

Not much Ent-E but interesting.

Read that and its an excellent book, I kind of wish LUG still remained and continued its Startrek RPG line.

However, I've often thought of trying again with Captain's Blood/Glory since I've been told of the Romulan angle in those books (and I'm a sucker for Romulan stories).

I have Captain's Blood and it has some interesting stuff but nearly as much Romulan related matters as I thought it would.
