Spoilers TNG: Collateral Damage by David Mack Review Thread

so I just got a notification from Chapters that this book is now shipping in Canada.

 

I suppose I could get an early copy at the S&S table at NYCC?

 

I’ve just been notified that my copy is in the post so should be here in a couple of days.

Be a while before I read it though as I’m way behind on the 24th century timeline.

 

My book should be coming in the mail soon.

I just got my copy in the mail today. What’s with the sandy-feeling cover? It feels like I’m trying to hold sandpaper or maybe a book that was dunked in flour.

 

For any other e-book readers out there, that version is released on Tuesday.

 

In about 2.5 chapters in. The Picard chapter was good, but the switch from 3rd to 1st person is not that good. This Nausicaan that is in the 1.5 chapters, really doesn’t sound interesting and I’m almost ready to skip his chapters.

i just finished Chapter 2. It was written in the first person and was very confusing trying to figure out who was speaking, as mid-way through the chapter it switched to a completely different character. I think the first part was following Okona from “The Outrageous Okona”, while the last half was the Nausicaan that was introduced in the Prologue, but I’m not too sure.

So I’ve been reading some more. Yeah, I’m finding the 1st person sections are really clunky and just slow down the pace. Even though they are part of the story, it feels like they should be in a separate book. There are chapters where the narrative switches from third to first person midway or vice versa, and in those chapters it feels like you are driving on a smooth cement highway but then all of a sudden the road becomes a dirt road riddled with potholes.

 

Picking up my copy today, I expect. Will report in afterward.

 

I've noticed that practice with the covers of Wired Magazine in recent years. Mildly annoying. If there's a product-longevity or cost-control issue requiring it, I suppose I can live with it, though.

It’s interesting, but while (so far) no specific New Frontier characters have appeared, a member of the Thallonian species has appeared, the same species that Si Cwan is from.

 

Have to wait until Tuesday....

 

They pop up outside of New Frontier from time to time. There was a Thallonian in the DS9 Relaunch, and I think we've seen a few others in other places too.

Naomi Wildman also appears in this book. So for the Star Trek Voyager Relaunch books, this means that at some point between 2382 and January 2387 Naomi completes her Starfleet Academy training and becomes a Lieutenant.
