TNG: Available Light cover revealed

I thought Picards role in the min zife affair dealt with in a previous book? I'm sure someone confronted him about it and said Picard would never be offered another command after the Enterprise and would never be promoted to Admiral.

It was dealt with privately, within the circle of secrecy at Starfleet. Now it's public knowledge, and there are bound to be consequences from that.

Meanwhile, deep in the distant, unexplored region of space known as the Odyssean Pass, Picard and the crew of the Starship Enterprise must put aside personal feelings and political concerns as they investigate a massive mysterious spacecraft. Adrift for centuries in the void

There seems to be a lot of these massive ships just left lying around :)
I've recently started reading Armageddon's Arrow, which seems similar.

Nah, Aramgeddon's Arrow had a very good reason for the ship to be in the Odyssean Pass, so I think that isn't entirely fair. But it's kinda funny :D

I have, like, nine or ten other “Enterprise finds a mysterious ship” ideas waiting in the wings.

Don’t tempt me. ;)

In all seriousness, despite the initial similarity and the way the copy sells the story, this really is different from Armageddon's Arrow (which got there due to time travel). I’d like to think my editor wouldn’t let me get away with something too close to that story this time around. It’s also in keeping with my general desire to have the TNG crew do more exploration and even come across big, brassy type whatchamahoozits the way Kirk and company did, at least for a little while.

In this particular case, it’s also a counterpoint to the book’s other, more politically necessary storyline of the Section 31 fallout. I’d been avoiding that sort of thing because I have to confess to being a bit burned out after the Typhon Pact and The Fall storylines, which was why I pitched Arrow in the first place.

But the Control aftermath is obviously too juicy to ignore. :)

Can’t wait. Hopefully we’ll get to see more of Bashir down the road as well. Hopefully he isn’t in a slump for the rest of his life. He’s still got Ezri after all.

I think Ezri will be too busy with commanding the Aventine. But I want to see what happens to Bashir, too. Especially how they deal with traumatized people.

You don’t know what the future entails. In STO they get married and have kids.

I really don't care for STO, as for the novels, having Dax and Bashir more than friends is lazy, boring and completely unimaginative.

It can start up again, now that Douglas is gone.

Unlikely. They were cute as couple. But I had the impression that Bashir always loved Jadzia Dax and not Ezri Tigan. He always saw Jadzia in Ezri Dax. And he never got to know Ezri Tigan. Ezri is busy with commanding the Aventine. And Bashir is currently not in a position where he is able to fall in love anytime soon. I hope his story ends in his healing. I can't see Ezri having a relationship with someone aboard Aventine either, but you'll never know.
