TMP or Abram's Enterprise, which design is better?

enterpriseeow3.gif

Now that's a starship....

Personally I like the Refit Enterprise over the Nu-Enterprise.

Personally when I look at the Nu-Enterprise, it looks like they took all the undesirable parts from the TOS Enterprise Enterprise, Refit Enterprise and took a few ENT-D design features (blended neck and curved pylons) and slapped them all together

For myself, I'd rank them as such -

Original
Refit
New

I don't dislike the new ship, mind you. But I do have a few notes. ;)

It looked like a frisbee & a flashlight that got run over by a truck & smushed into a single mess.

*shrugs*

You might also say that the others looked like a frisbee and a flashlight held together by popsicle sticks.

Its not my favorite ship, but it IS nice, IMO. I'm surprised you can't see the resemblance to the refit Constitution-class.

I see it. Well, sorta. I see its lineage, at least. It actually looks more like a very streamlined Excelsior-class to me. I think it's the proportions... in no small part due to the size of the secondary hull in proportion to the saucer.

As mentioned earlier, thought, the surface is just waaay too busy. Smooth that shit out... give it a slightly melted look... and me and the Ent-E can kiss and make up.

For me it's refit all the way. I just love that design, even though I was born during the TNG era. When you look at at, it's obvious that the designers tried to create a ship that looked like it truly could be a spaceship. Sure, the pylons might not look to sturdy but they are not really engines of course which suffer from stress, but more like warp field maintainers.
I really can't understand that some people love the JJ-prise nacelles. IMO they are like a kick in the stomach. Those fisheye caps and weird curves while they look like they weigh twice that of the ship itself. Secondly the secondary hull is seriously out of proportion with that weird, almost flat, ending which is surely less sturdy than the refit pylons. Lastly the neck. Why place that in the middle of the hull? Together with that secondary hull it just looks ridicules.
In the topics after the first release of the JJ-prise picture someone made a mock-up where they corrected the stuff above and I even liked that design. That said; I really liked the Kelvins design.

In the features of the TMP DVD it was told that the designer wanted the E to illuminate itself, hence all the spotlights. Also the detail of the paintjob of the hull was explained. The refit was truly a work of art with a semi-realistic view of the future.
JJ said in a interview that he wanted his version of the E to look cool. I probably looks cool to a lot of people, but imo it's nothing more than a prop created to look cool and flashy.

I agree. Rub all the beveled surfaces away and give it a pearly white look and it'll do much for the model, in my eyes. Now it just looks like someone ordered different parts but they cobbled it together anyway. :D

Accept no substitutes. The closer to this, the better IMO. I guess my real question now is: Is TMP refit or the JJ'Prise closer? What do ya think?

I think JJ's ship is somewhere between the two, which is good since in the timeline it was built between the time of the original (2245) and the refit (2271). It's a 2250's design, something we haven't seen before. I do like it, as I've said, but it looks best in motion and I do have a few notes. ;)

That's a very cool take on it.
I have to admit that seeing a movie with the original crew again after all this time may have made me a bit reluctant to see the new design's flaws in a personally affecting way- back in the day I just accepted TMP's Enterprise with a totally recessed deflector & rectangular nacelles in the same way.
I guess I'm just happy to see ANY of the old design back again, even if the new nacelles are a little too close together.:scream:

Yeah, most of the issue I have with the 2009 ship is that the nacelles are too close together and the engine hull is a wee bit small. Makes it look skinny and weird from some angles.

With that in particular, I can deal.
Really, the JJ'Prise is just as close IMO to the original ship as the MP refit is, albeit in different ways, so I have very little problem with it now. Just took some getting used to.
And as I said before, having the toy helps.:techman:
*presses the bridge to light it up & passes it by his one open eye*

I like the TMP one most of the two.
My only gripe with the new one is the smaller secondary hull...making the ship look a bit top heavy, and when I look at the pimped out nacells....I say to myself, "The designer(s) sure were compencating some sort of short-coming :p "

How long is the new one, anyhow?
