TMP - Did You Know the Movie Started?

When I was a kid, the VCR ate the very beginning of the (SLV) tape. Luckily the overture was there to take the hit and I knew never to rewind it past the opening credits...

The moving star field in the DE is really for contemporary audiences who are unfamiliar with the overture that was typical of classic roadshow movies. This added visual is just as out of place as Greedo shooting first in Star Wars.

Ilia's Theme is a wonderful piece of music, and the blank screen is perfectly OK as a prelude to the actual movie, before the lights have been dimmed and the screen curtains have been opened.

Kor

..... i don't think i've ever seen.... screen curtains, at any theater i've been to. lol.

Screen curtains were part of another era in movie theaters. I highly doubt that we'll ever see them again.

And for me, the overture was a wonderful addition to my first viewing of the movie.

Screen curtains are so ingrained in my mind as part of the moviegoing experience that I can't not picture them when imagining a cinema.

A month or so after STTMP premiered in theaters, I was gifted from a friend a copy of the film on a VHS tape. I don't know where it originated, but it looked half-decent for an obvious illegal copy, and it was a nice birthday present. The odd thing about that tape was that it was a T-120 - a 2-hour tape, and the film was recorded at the SP speed, meaning that it clicked off just as Decker and Ilea-probe were merging. When my friend asked how I liked it, I replied, "I loved it - no end".
