Huh.. They reinstated alot of the TV version back in, and im extactic about that!
But still left out Kirk in the space suit area and him going out while Spock is in Vger. Probably because it had scaffolding in the shot and guess they didn't have the money to hid it.
EDIT:
Cgi at the end was sub par... Owell..

And... Still get the vapers seeing the space dock scene... Damn thats a beautiful ship..

They didn't add in anything new this time besides the new special effects and some background dialogue replacement. But as far as any new live-action scenes there weren't any.
And whatever shifty-eyed look Kirk gave when he entered the bridge in the theatrical version is 100% exactly the same in the director's Edition. There is no cut there.

Well, there's also the whole problem of Kirk being in a completely different spacesuit that we see him wearing when he retrieves Spock...

There was a ton of stuff from the TV version that was not included in the director's Edition and about 90% of it was rightfully left out of the movie. And of all the things that needed to be left out of the movie was Kirk in a completely different space suit from the one he actually ends up being in when he catches Spock's returning body

Not sure if this is the best place for this…but I’m trying to watch this in Australia on my LG C1 OLED via Amazon Prime and it won’t let me watch it in 4K HDR / Dolby Vision. The best I can get is 1080p. Anyone down under or abroad have the same issue or know of a work around ?

EDIT: Also unable to access the Dolby Atmos soundtrack either :(

Just watched it and thought it looked and sounded great. The only obvious flaw is in the scene where Kirk/Spock/McCoy speak together in the lounge from 53:25 to 56:00. There's some very messy work done whenever any of the characters are standing in front of the background star field. Strange that this should look so bad when it seems like a pretty straightforward shot.

It's much more obvious in motion than in this screenshot:

Hoping to see it in a theater next month and definitely getting it on disc! :)

Edit: David cgc notes the same issue with the lounge scene and give a possible explanation.

Might be something you can only get through the Paramount Plus app

He doesn't wear the same spacesuit when he leaves the Enterprise as he's wearing when he finds Spock later.

At least you have a option. In the UK I have to use a VPN.
Yeah, my poor old laptop struggles with the VPN over Wi-Fi plugged into my 1080p TV, let alone 4K. I’m still probably going to watch it because I won’t be able to resist, but I’ll have to wait until September to get the full effect.

I don’t use the VPN as such but the dynamic DNS service that comes with it so I can watch it over a Apple TV device. Works quite well. Only catch is that every so often you have to update the server.

When I was watching it yesterday on my Fire TV, toward the end a mysterious blue rectangle appeared on the screen. I was pushing every button on my remote to get rid of it, and the "back" button finally did the trick. I guess it was something wonky with my TV, but the experience distracted me from paying close attention to the ending. I've never had this happen before.

Paramount + only supports 4K and Atmos on certain streaming devices. I have the same problem, streaming from an Xbox. It's ok. My Apple TV 4K is arriving today LOL.

Seems like it's not worth it. We don't even need nacelles in that shot; Hell no one gripes that the whole fwd half of the saucer is missing in Nemesis when the viewscreen gets blown out.

Would you even see it from that angle though?
