In fact, the theatrical is already in 4K, but I guess someone will have issues with that. (Plus, "But where is my pan'n'scan Special Longer Version I remember from the TV premiere?") LOL.
The 4K release of the theatrical edition is stunning on my 65" 4K HDR TV.

I bought my first DVD player just after moving house because I found the then-new DVD of the "Batman '66" movie. Then along came TMP - TDE!

I did exactly the same thing. I bought my first DVD player specifically so I could watch the DE on disk.
However you chose to enjoy something is cool. I still play my Atari 2600 from time to time.
IDIC and all that.
I bought the second Sony DVD player released in 1997, so I'd had the format a few years. When TDE came out I was worried my order wouldn't show up on time. If anyone remembers October/November 2001, after the 9/11 attacks there was also an anthrax attack going on in the US mail. It shut down my local hub. Somehow, my order still came in, and a few days before street date! I watched TDE three times that day (movie, audio commentary, text commentary) and then went over to a friends the next day to watch it again.
The goal of the project is to not do anything that wouldn't have been (at least theoretically) possible in 1979, so that kind of revisionism is out-of-scope. Besides, even Enterprise acknowledged the ring-ship Enterprise.
Yeah, I don't see the point in retconning the Motion Picture to remove something that's never been contradicted.
At this point, I'm pretty sure the only formats I don't have TMP on is CED Selectavision and 8-track.

And, if they fail to do so, we should riot on CBS and Paramount+. I plan on arming myself with a bullhorn and a catapult that will launch diseased meat at their headquarters if they fail to meet these demands.
And a giant sign that says "Hell no, we won't watch"
