TMNT Season Finale

What got me was that it took Leo 3 months to wake from his coma, and yet it's implied they restored Raph from plant to, uh, "normal" overnight, no more than a couple of days.

I burst forth laughing when they presented the Thundarr parody. What made it funny for me, personally, was the violence. In the "real" show, they held back on the amount of force they imparted, even upon the most heinous of evil wizards. The real life reason of course was that children's television was still heavily regulated, particularly Saturday morning TV at that time. Here the characters hack and slash their way through a group of innocent villagers, even the Princess Ariel caricature, who was usually the most cautious and sympathetic in the original series.

A neat lil' homage to the "slasher film" genre. The animators certainly had fun with the lighting effects. Though I thought the "villain" appeared more disturbing with the burlap hood rather than wearing Casey's hockey mask, making an all too obvious salute to Jason" from the "Friday the 13th" films.

Sincerely,

Bill

This episode wins points for the horror slasher homage and the 90's movie/comic parallels with the farm house

-The turtles taking shifts watching their injured brother

-April drawing and narrating

-Mikey in a straw hat(there's a scene in the 90's movie like that)

-Donnie and Casey working on the truck

Since the Shellraiser is trashed I hope the party van becomes the new turtle van.

Although it looks like they'll take the broken down truck back to New York(like the movie)

I definitely noticed the change to Seth Green, though, since he's a pretty familiar voice.

Yeah, and as far as I can tell he's just using his normal voice.

I did laugh at the Thundarr reference, and wondered how many people watching would get it.

So, after that astoundingly amazing season finale... we've now had four crap episodes in a row about them being in the damn forest. Why? I like this show but these are the worst eps they've ever done. NYC has been conquered by aliens and they're just hanging out in a farmhouse while body thieves and Lady Big Foots and mutant frogs just happen across their path? Ugh. When does the story resume?

The one about April's "mother" was creepy, but yeah, I wish they'd get back to the city and address what's happening there. Leo's been healing long enough.

And the frogs were kind of random. Where'd they get their names and personas? In the original cartoon, the Punk Frogs were created by Shredder as sort of an anti-Turtles team, so he named them after conquerors. Here, they're just kind of randomly there, with no explanation for their names. If they hate and fear humans, how could they have absorbed human culture to that extent?

Still, it was neat to hear Maurice LaMarche playing both Attila (as Brando) and Rasputin -- with Genghis being Kevin Michael Richardson doing his version of Frank Welker's "Dr. Klaw" voice. Question: Was Napoleon's disaffected-nerd persona meant to be a reference to Napoleon Dynamite? I haven't seen that movie, but I have the impression its title character had that kind of persona.

yes. Napoleon was voiced by Jon Heder who portrayed the main character of that film.

Season 3 has so far made me laugh a few times, but I am really feeling disconnected from it in terms of storytelling. I don't know if it's Seth Green* or the setting or both, but this season is just not doing it for me so far. I really hope they get back on track. I'd hate for it to become a "Remember that TMNT show that had a great first two seasons and then shit the bed?" type deal.

*Super-hard to get used to. In my darkest moments I fear I never will. :(

ugh. they really need to go back to NY. Leo seems pretty much better at this point. i think the frog ep is the only one i really enjoyed so far.

Dream Beavers? O...kay. Odd that the Beavers had the same four colors as the Turtles' bandanas but they weren't paired off by color.

The funniest part was the chainsaw guy in the store, and his weird story. That was goofy and bizarre. "What? I can't hear you over the chainsaw!"

But it didn't really add anything worthwhile. It's time to get back to the city, guys.

At first I thought we might have gotten an homage to "Evil Dead/Army of Darkness", given the introduction of the chainsaw and the "ancient tome". Obviously, I "read" too much into those elements, and the idea was doused when we saw what the book really was.

Sincerely,

Bill

^It was more of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre homage. The chainsaw blade was inscribed with "The Saw is Family," which is a line from Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and was engraved on a chainsaw in the third movie in the series. Or so a Google search tells me -- I've never seen those films.

it was and odd yet fun episode. but yes, time to get back to the city already.

The wikipedia episode guide only lists info on one future episode and it sounds like they're STILL in the forest :wtf:

AGREED.

I thought they'd stay there for a run of halloween horror episodes but it's mid november now!

If the city isn't in full blown control by the time they get back i'll riot.

By the way, starting in about an hour, Nicktoons is doing a weeklong marathon of the 2003 Ninja Turtles cartoon, the one that was fairly faithful to the comics. From 8 to midnight each night, except Wednesday when it's just 8-9.
