TMNT Season Finale

Mr Light

Admiral
Admiral
Did anybody else watch the one hour second season finale to the new TMNT cartoon last night?

It was AMAZING. It felt like a series finale! It was dark and violent and pretty showed the end of the world. The Krang staged a full scale invasion of NYC with the help of Shredder.

And they WON!

At the end of the episode, the villains were not defeated, they were completely victorious, and the heroes fled the city to go into hiding!

And there was some serious violence for a kid's cartoon too. Shredder beat the shit out of Splinter, CUT HIM (off screen), then tossed him into a sewer drain to drown to death!

Leonardo fought off an entire army of the Foot and company, got his ass completely handed to him, and got his shell CUT OPEN by the Shredder!

April's Dad was once again hit with mutagen and turned into a monster, and Casey's family also disappeared and was presumably mutated.

They didn't even manage to defeat Krang Prime with their mecha turtle. They lost and had to run away!

I've always enjoyed this show for its CGI and its sense of humor, but never before have they gotten so dark and serious and I loved it. Well done.

Dear lord. I thought I was imagining it but I just looked it up; Krang Prime is voiced by Roseanne Barr!!! That's hilarious

And

Irma Krang

voiced by Gilbert Gottfried

Yeah, that ever so slightly irked me. Earlier in the season, in the episode featuring the return of the Rat King, Irma talked rather fondly about rats (before everything got "crazy"). That made me wonder when, or if she ever got to actually meet Splinter, she might actually find him, uh, "intriguing" rather than repulsive. But the "twist" presented last night blew that potential scenario out of the water...dang it.

Sincerely,

Bill

that was completely unexpected. i just wonder if there is a 'real' version of that character out there.

She fled with the Turtles to her house in the woods, just like in the middle of the first live action movie. Only this time it's because aliens have conquered NYc

Funny, that's what came to my mind as well, how it roughly parallels the first LA movie. Haven't seen it in ages, but wasn't one of the Turtles badly injured (effectively in a coma) in the movie as well? Probably Raph' given his hot headed nature.

Sincerely,

Bill

Actually, I think the "retreat to April's family farm in a VW Bus" was strait out of an early comic before the 90 film. I'm not 100% certain though.

Non the less, it was a great episode. I can't wait for season three to start, with rumors of some more familiar characters making an appearance.

I'm confused. Last Friday was the season finale... but the next season's premiere airs this Friday? Isn't there normally supposed to be, like, a hiatus between seasons? Although I guess I'm glad we don't have to wait for the continuation.

Anyway, I liked the previous 2-parter better in some ways; the visit to Dimension X was deliriously imaginative and cements this version of TMNT as the best-designed 3D-animated show on TV, although I already knew that. But this was one hell of an intense, powerful finale. The closing scenes were so solemn that they felt like a season finale on a prime-time drama.

Gilbert Gottfried as a Kraang was kind of odd. Why did he talk differently from the other Kraang, who are known as Kraang?

And yes, I think the retreat to the farmhouse is from the comics, since it was in the 2003 animated series, which was very faithful to the comics until its last couple of seasons.

I checked Wikipedia, and I'm surprised to learn that Jason Biggs left as the voice of Leonardo 7 episodes ago, after an episode aired in June. Since then he's been played by Dominic Catrambone. I didn't even notice the change. Starting this week, though, the role of Leonardo will be played by Seth Green. I think that's a change I will notice. I wonder if they'll lampshade it. "Man -- Leo was hurt so bad his voice changed!"

They pushed back the end of season two to add "build up" for the film, I guess.

Doesn't really make sense since season two would have ended months before the film, but that's what they said.

I couldn't believe they weren't airing episodes in the month that the movie came out. Would have been a good way to build the audience.

There was an obscure Trek/Shatner reference in episode 24 (I think) where one of the Kraang corrected another on the pronunciation of "sabotage".

Jason Biggs was fired.

He just wouldn't stop making remarks about certain things. Nick toons probably didn't want any backlash

(CNN) -- For most of the day, Jason Biggs wasn't letting the Twitterverse judge whether his sarcastic quip about the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crash was funny.

The "Orange is the New Black" actor stirred a Twitter storm after news reports confirmed that a Boeing 777 crashed in Ukraine with almost 300 people on board. Biggs joked, "Anyone wanna buy my Malaysian Airlines frequent flier miles?"

You "called it"!

Sincerely,

Yup, pretty much. I wonder why they didn't just keep Dominic Catrambone, though. He sounded enough like Biggs that I didn't even notice the change. Maybe the controversy over the actor made them decide they didn't even want a soundalike?

I definitely noticed the change to Seth Green, though, since he's a pretty familiar voice. It's going to take some getting used to.

The situation in the season premiere is odd to me. So the Kraang have conquered and held New York City for three months -- but the rest of the world is still intact, and running smoothly enough that there are still broadcast-TV reruns of a Thundarr the Barbarian pastiche? (And what channel would that be on, anyway? Boomerang?) Given how much faster time runs in Dimension X, shouldn't they have had plenty of time to press their conquest and take the whole planet by now? Hopefully we'll learn next week that the military has been holding them at bay. We got a token glimpse of the military in the finale last week, but then they vanished without explanation.
