"That '90s show" (as in the 2390's) would probably be too confusing?

I'd have a show set in the 1890s and call it That Gay '90s Show. Then watch as the people constantly complaining about "SJWs!!!!" react.

I want the cold open of the first episode to be a recreation of this scene:

immediately followed by the title card and Seinfeld guitar riffs.

I suppose they could have gone with 'Star Trek: Twilight' as in the twilight of Picard's career (geddit?), but I'm pretty satisfied with 'Star Trek: Picard' (which we've been calling it the last several months anyway).

Would have been funny if they had just called it 'The Picard Show' and left it that though. It sounds like a late night talk show.

When I heard the title, the two things I though of were that and this:

Ah, so Stone Temple Pilots is apparently a real group. I just thought someone made up the name by having three random words as a backronym :D Sorry not big into alternative or grunge or parent's garage rock or whatever they are :D :D

Ironically, you're still kind of right about how the name came about - the band was also inspired by the STP motor oil logo, and named their band Shirley Temple's P**** as a backronym, but then they changed it for mainstream marketability under pressure from their record label.

they weren't really grunge. They were a hard rock band that did their own thing. They had a really talented singer/lyricist that had a drug problem that hampered the band and ended up being the death of him. They were pretty good.

For any kid that grew up in a NASCAR watching family at a certain time period, I doubt any of us can't see STP without thinking of Richard Petty in his various STP race cars. But yeah, I was a fan of the band too.

Hope they use another abbreviation. I recall just a month or two ago, one of the people involved in production denied it would be called Picard. I guess that was either a lie or a last minute change. I don't mean to be morbid but it does take a bit of guts or bad decision making, naming your show after a 78 year old lead.

There's something to be said for not overthinking a title and just going for the blunt-force approach. Sometimes "Snakes on a Plane" is the best way to describe a movie about snakes on a plane, you know? See also "Star Trek: The Next Generation" or "Star Trek: The Motion Picture."

"So, what do we call this new STAR TREK show about Picard?"
    "Um, STAR TREK: PICARD?"
    "Don't be ridiculous. That's too obvious." :)

I'm just glad it's not named after a spaceship or location.

These are the voyages of the Starship Picard.
    It's ongoing mission:
To explore the Picard Nebula, Picard Rift, and Picard Expanse.
To seek out Picard, and Picards.
To boldly go, where no Picard has gone... Picard!

If they'd really been going for brand recognition, it would've been Star Trek: The Bald French Guy.

I feel sorry for the band member on the right. Must be like being the Spinal Tap drummer.

I can't be bothered reading through the intervening eight pages. Has anyone made the joke about Picard: A Star Trek Story yet?

Considering the level of imagination they have shown , the next series will be called “Star Trek: Section 31” which is probably better than “Star Trek: Georgiou”.

That's pretty much the exact level of imagination that's gone into almost every Trek series name ever. So at least it's consistent.

SO .. Now that the show has a title, how long before it actually gets it's own section in these forums?

I know technically it's still 6 or 7 months away ("The Future"), but it seems we know just a bit more than enough for it to be moved from MISC. and qualify for its own subsection in the STAR TREK SERIES | 2364-2378+.
