Spoilers Titans - DC Universe Series

I was pretty put off Titans due to that horrible "Fuck Batman" trailer, but I decided to check it out last week and I'm enjoying myself quite a bit. It's nowhere near as dark and gritty as the trailer made it out to be.

This is probably something that bothers only me, but I wish people wouldn't refer to the DCU Doom Patrol series as being a spinoff of Titans because it's not, any more than Constantine: City of Demons is a 'spinoff' of the Arrowverse/NBC's Constantine series.

I was a little bothered by some of the interpretations of the characters, particularly Hawk and Dove. I was also bothered by the level of violence--Robin has no problem killing, or at least severely maiming people. Once I got beyond that I found myself enjoying it quite a bit.

If you are okay watching a unique interpretation on the characters and prepared to accept the series for what it is then it is pretty entertaining.

Honestly, this show was the only time I've ever found 'Hawk and Dove' to be even remotely interesting, so that has to be a positive.

Dick's struggle with his descent into violence was also a significant part of the first season. We know that he's deeply uncomfortable with how easily into that level of violence and I'd expect to see him continuing to try and pull himself out of it when season two unfolds.

Also, I kinda love that he's not "killing". He breaks limbs, draws blood, dismembers and cripples people, definitely broke the odd spine and/or neck, but somehow, he does not "kill". It's like that Pete Holmes Batman parody with Batman obviously killing all the bad guys, but "oh no, they're just sleeping".

Seems a shame they pushed off the real season 1 finale to season 2 as these casting announcements makes it seem they are going to go in a different direction so it would've been nice to put a cap on the last one before moving on.

I've seen speculation that Season 2 is going to be using The Judas Contract storyline as inspiration, but the casting of Mercy Graves has me thinking that S2's inspiration is less Judas Contract and more Titans: Earth One.

After having seen the episode "Doom Patrol", I want Titans Season 2 to bring back the characters and give us a follow-up to what happened after Rachel freaked out and reinjured Caulder, who, like Sister Catherine, wasn't really behaving maliciously despite the show trying to get us as an audience to view his actions through that lens.

^^
That's more costume stuff in that short teaser than in the entire first season. :D

Looking forward to it. :techman:
