Back in 1912, the RMS Titanic sank, and with her went over 1,000 people. Whether or not you believe in an afterlife is besides the point; it was a tragic loss, and let us come together to remember the fallen. May we always remember the Titanic.

May we remember the millions of earthquake, flood, tsunami, etc., or, more to the point, plane crash, train wreck and plain car crash victims of the past 97 years. Too many to fathom? That's true. Let's picture them on a boat.

I did some volunteer work for the Titanic Exhibition in Memphis in mid-1995, so I had a particular interest in James Cameron's movie when it came out a couple years later. Say what you will about the movie, what impressed me most was the 90% scale reproduction they built of one whole side of the ship.
I still hate that selfish old bitch for not telling anyone about Jack after she froze and drowned him because her fat ass took up the whole piece of wood. Then she had the nerve to throw the diamond back in the ocean after letting Hudson waste millions of dollars and risk lives searching for it?

Sorry, I just can't get worked up over the Titanic. Sure, it was a "tragic loss" in the sense that every single premature death is a tragic loss, but the losses were peanuts compared to a lot of other disasters.

I definitely believe that, visually, it was probably the most impressive movie of that time and (although I'm guessing since I haven't watched it since then) it probably still remains visually impressive.
I didn't see it till the other night and I can only say that the effects haven't aged very well, sometimes they even look cardboard'ish.

Very tragic, and very preventable. It was the death of hundreds, the end of an era and the beginning of a legend.
When the papers said "God himself couldn't sink her", that's when we knew it was doomed in the movie.

Whats never discussed is the fact that when the Titanic left England, part of it's cargo was several crates of Hellman's Mayonaise which were to ultimately be off loaded in America and loaded onto another ship whose destination was Mexico city since the mayor was a big fan of the stuff. Upon hearing of the ships loss, the mayor of Mexico City sent his regrets to the shipping line and the victim's families, but he still missed his Hellman's, so he created a holiday on the day that they the Mayonaise should have arrived in Mexico City. The holiday of course is "Sinko da Mayo"
