Timescape

When I first watched this ep as a kid... I found it the eeriest, scariest episode of TNG I'd seen!

That smiley face on the warp core breach literally gave me nightmares. It was just freaky! Picard acting crazy a few seconds later didn't help either.

That scene creeped me out, too. He's almost always the one to keep things together and when he loses it, it's unsettling. I liked that the writers did such things once in a while though. Here, Picard is suceptible to the effects of being out of phase. In Genesis, he began to feel the effects of de-evolution. In Chain of Command, we learn at the end that he succumbed to the strain of prolonged torture. No doubt he was a great captain and the consumate leader, but he was human and the writers were willing to show that. TOS didn't do that very much at all with Kirk.

I love this episode. Probably because it was one of the few I taped off the TV, along with All Good Things and Yesterday's Enterprise, so I watched it endlessly.

TNG episodes are generally divided into the 'Moral Dilemma and Big Picard Speech' and 'Weird Mystery' types, and this is one of the best of the latter. I like the mix of characters used, and the way it plays with perceptions. Quite refreshing to see the Enterprise helping some Romulans, and no one trying to declare war over it. With this, Unification and The Chase, I thought they were going down the route of sofrening up the Romulans, but we never really saw then again until later on in DS9.

It's a cool use of another time anomoly thing, and fortunately there isn't too much in the way of technobabble. Bubbles of time flowing at different rates - brilliant. No Chronometric Temporal Emergence Quantum Stasis Ovoids here thank you very much.

I like spotting extras wobbling in the background too, and Crusher's bizarre 'being shot' expression.

All in all, satisfying TNG goodness.

One of my favorite TNG eps as well. I like its scope, the different acts make it seem larger than other episodes, the sets, the scenes.

It was cool seeing the runabout aft section.

I always found it odd they never showd the back of a runabout in the entire run of DS9, but showed it in the one and only episode TNG had one.
It's a touch odd Deep Space Nine didn't make use of the sets. It seems like the use of a runabout for Next Generation would have been a good ``backdoor'' way to build a useful set for the new show under the budget of the big and secure master show.

it's one of the only (the only?) episode that doesn't start on the Enterprise.

Actually it did begin on the Enterprise. Dr. Crusher and Cmdr. Riker are in Sickbay discussing how Will got scratches on his head and he says he was trying to feed Spot then it switches to the bridge.

Oh, I stand corrected. :) I had no recollection of that scene at all.

It's one of those scenes that can be easily cut for time in reruns. I remember thinking I had dreamed a little scene in "Rascals" where young Picard admires his lush head of hair in the mirror in his quarters, just before Deanna comes to visit him. For years I couldn't figure out why I had such a clear memory of a scene that, upon MULTIPLE replays of my tapes, I hadn't seen again. Imagine my delight to find it on the DVDs and realize that my tapes were just edited. :D

you can't concetrate on the tiny details. you can only conetrate on the details that make for good drama.

If you concentrated on all the tiny details it would be extremely boring and would add a lot of unneccessary time to to episode.
