Time t get from DS9 to Earth ? How far was Bajor from Earth

Re: Time t get from DS9 to Earth ? How far was Bajor from Ea

Where would we get "downward to the right" as the course towards the Expanse? From the VFX that shows the ship banking away from a Vulcanward course? That wouldn't tell us anything, because we don't know the orientation of the ship. "Right" could be in any direction on the map - towards the core, away from it, towards Beta Quadrant, towards Alpha.

All we really know about the direction to the Expanse is that both Klingons and Vulcans went there long before Archer did. We might want to speculate that Klingons wouldn't go to the far Alpha, or that Vulcans wouldn't go to the far Beta, but we have no solid grounds for doing so.

By ENT dialogue, we know the part of the Expanse where the Xindi were was three months away from Earth at warp five ("The Expanse"). The Xindi themselves say that this equates 50 lightyears ("The Xindi"). But the actual edge of the Expanse then probably lies somewhat closer to Earth than 50 ly. That's really close, and goes to show how little the early Earthlings knew about their neighborhood. We could easily argue that everybody prior to the 2150s was in the same situation: they didn't know squat about their close neighbors, because the Expanse was blocking their way.

When did Quark state anything like that?

Here we go again. In the episode where Quark, Nog and Rom fly to Earth in a Ferengi shuttle and end up back in time in Roswell New Mexico.

Remember it?

Hmh? "Little Green Men"? There's nothing there about it taking months to get from Bajor to Earth. Rather, a tiny shuttlecraft is shown making the trip in a shorter time than it takes to soil a set of Ferengi clothes. Hell, Quark even sleeps in his chair, suggesting the trip takes just a day or two. (Although the soldiers later say that there is a "rudimentary sleeping area" on the ship, too.)

Not to mention that Odo manages to maintain his camouflage all through the trip, despite supposedly having to regenerate at least once a day...

It's never really said, but here's some pretty decent speculation for you.

A week or so ago, Timo linked to a couple of maps present in a Voyager scene that gives the position of the ship in the Delta Quadrant relative to the ends of the Bajoran wormhole, and Earth. I'd say the chart in the link is fairly close.

That's interesting, but I have a new challenge for you: identify canidates for Bajor's host star. :bolian:

Not fair. Despite its proximity, it can't be seen from Earth, because the Delphic Expanse is in the way! :vulcan:
