Tim Russert reported to be dead!

What a shame. He was one of the real pros out there. At a time when most of his colleagues in broadcast journalism are either blowhards, hype peddlers or outright partisans, he still played things old-school. He'll be missed.

So sad, he was one of the few journalists that I actually believed what he was saying. Rest in peace Mr. Russert, I'll certainly miss your political commentary this season.

Man he's the most enjoyable person to watch when it came to conducting political interviews. he will eb sorely missed.

As an Englishman I've never heard of him, but I thought it was Tim Russ who was dead for a second

Tim Russert (58) was host of the national program "Face The Nation" and his own 1 hour interview program. He's been almost universally referred to as one of the fairest American Journalists for at least the past 20 years.

He was a greater man than I will ever be. If that makes him a "great man", well, that's up to someone else to decide.

I just like soup.

Meet the Press actually. :)

What a shock. I sent a text out to my brother and he immediately called me in total disbelief. As a politics and news geek, he was one of my favorites -- even if I rarely made it up on Sunday morning's to watch Meet the Press. The man made much more sense with only his white board than anyone else and the cast array of graphics.

You are correct...I've mixed up those show titles for around 20 years.

I hope they don't do a LOT of "In Memoriam" stuff on Sunday...and I hope David Gregory fills in until Chuck Todd is named Washington Bureau Chief.

With FOX bending over and taking it from the Right and CNN bending over and taking it from the Left, and MSNBC in bed with the Obamas, Russert was the only guy I trusted...a VERY big loss indeed..he will be missed in this day of media bias.

This is a very sad thing to have happen. I saw this earlier today while I was at my office and it was hard to see and deal with. Having met Mr. Russert in the past and even briefly discussed politics with him while he visited my alma mater it was hard to take. He will definately be missed.

May he rest in peace.

What style; what a simple take on the mayhem of politics he had. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing today.

^^ And the whiteboard is in the Smithsonian now.

Stunning, saddening news. Russert really was the gold standard for political commentary and reporting, always ready to take politicians to task for their contradictions. He will be missed...so sad that he died just two days before Fathers Day. :(

Hi, all. I've been out of pocket most of the day and just heard the news when I got home at 11 pm Eastern time about Tim Russert. I am so sad. He was a great journalist and a tough interviewer, but he was never partisan or shrill. He just demanded straight answers from his subjects, folks not known for giving straight answers. Meet the Press is one of my favorite shows. It's going to be hard to watch it this Sunday. -- RR

I enjoyed watching Meet The Press because of Tim Russert, he could and would make thr show's guests squirm with thr questions he asked of them!

BTW, in some of the pictures of Russert in his office they've shown at the base of his desk a sign that said in big, engraved letters "THOU SHALT NOT WHINE".

That's golden. If I get a big-ass desk in my new job next month, I'm going to get one of those. I'll pay for it myself.
