Damn this has not been a good month for the entertainment industry, first Frank Beard from ZZ Top a couple weeks ago, then Dolly Parton and now Tim Curry.
My first memory of seeing Tim Curry was in The Muppets Treasure Island, but I might have actually heard is voice in one of his '90s animated TV roles before that. I know Rocky Horror Picture show is his big trademark role, but I didn't see that when I was older, the first things that will always come to mind for me are Muppets Treasure Island, Clue, and Ferngully.

So tall in LEGEND.* So diminutive in RED OCTOBER. So what? So fine a man. And the best warlock in THE WORST WITCH, though many may not remember that HBO production. Diana Rigg, among younger others, was smitten with Curry's photograph. He was a more trustworthy Gilderoy Lockhart-type.

I remember vividly going to see Rocky Horror in high school. I had no real idea what I was in for. I remember Tim coming down the elevator and throwing off that cape and I turned to my friend and said, "I'm in love!" I saw RHPS many many Saturday nights in my college years. I hunted down several obscure movies of his, and his rock LPs. Then came Clue (which I will gladly watch over and over again) and Legend and every wonderful role that came after. What a fucking talent. This really hurts.
Tenuous indirect Star Trek connection: Tim Curry was in Clue. Jane Wiedlin from the Go-Gos had a cameo in Clue. Jane Wiedlin also had a cameo in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
Tim Curry had a couple of songs that got a bit of radio airplay in Canada in the late 1970s ( "I Do the Rock" and "Birds of a Feather," the latter being a cover of a song by Canadian new wave band Rough Trade, as I recall) . That was my first exposure. Then a bunch of us in high school went to a Rocky Horror Picture Show midnight showing in 1980. Great time. And then Clue and The Hunt for Red October and The Shadow and...

RHPS came out when I was in High School. Became a thing pretty fast. My sister, who ls older, was taken to see it in her first year at College. She was and is a "proper Christian lady", so I was a bit bemused at her going. My friend group went to see it one we came of age. One of my friends, whom I hadn't met yet, was Magenta at the movie theatre we went to. She had the hair for it. Still does.
