Tilly was reminding me of someone something fierce. It just clicked. We have our new Ezri.

Kind! Sweet! Utterly adorkable! Wears her own self-diagnosed character flaws on her sleeve, loudly! I know I'm oversimplifying, here, but as a lifelong member of the #LeaveEzriAlone club, I'm delighted to see someone similar.

And this time they're here from the start, too, so no one can say they're shoehorned in and stealing the spotlight from established faces!

Bring on the captaincy training, Cadet Sylvia Tilly. Please don't die!

I just hope Cadet Tilley doesn't change Burnam, Stamets, Lorca and Sari into bears. #changeyerfate ;)

But I did quite enjoy her. Didn't find her that grating. To me she was more Barcley 2.0.

#LeaveEzriAlone club, that's wonderful. I always liked Ezri and Barclay. Now, I absolutely love Tilly. Every moment of her on screen was a delight, and added a much needed dose of innocent humor to an otherwise gritty and somewhat depressing show (not that I'm complaining about the show, I'm loving it). When your ship is ridiculously dark (both literally figuratively) you're going to need a ridiculous character to break that tension. However, I do get how a character like her can be super annoying to other people. I'm just glad I'm not one of them :D

Ezri was at least easy on the eyes. But I agree that Ezri sucked as a character. Jadzia overshadowed her in every way.

I'm not going to pick on Tilly though, too easy of a target. I'm getting Neelix/JarJar vibes from Tilly on this show, but hopefully the character won't go in that direction. The "I'm going to be a Captain" line was so cringe though.

It's obvious Tilly is meant to be an intentional mouthpiece character for the nerdy audience of the show. We'll see how effectively that plays out. Worst case scenario, Tilly will be a very sympathetic character to kill off. Kind of like the overly eager cadet in Wrath of Khan. We knew he was doomed from the getgo.

You can take her and Meals on Hooves guy and put them out the airlock as far as I'm concerned. I do feel lucky though as I'm liking, for the most part, Lorca's crew much better than the previous crew. And has been pointed out already, having a Cylon as security chief rocks.

Not surprised to see there's a divisive take on the character. :P Here's hoping she improves for those who dislike her without losing too much of what some of us dig. My household loved her last night, including my cat presumably as she chirped during two Tilly scenes and not in a tone which suggested apathy.

If we're going to do serialized story telling, that will probably include character arcs with some development. There's nothing wrong with Tilly that a good writer can't fix, and keep her innocently naive while she grows. I just don't like that alien guy, he give me the shudders, just like the damned Ferengi did. Some Star Trek forehead aliens work for me, some don't.

The only character that I've had a painful reaction to so far is Stamets, but I'm hoping his character develops into something that I can enjoy, even if he continues to have an unlikeable personality. Everyone else I've been able to enjoy because/despite of their very specific personalities. Anxiety fangirl, 7-foot Daffodil, Human Vulcan-but-not-really-that-Vulcan, Security Shrew... Even the off-putting and mustache twirling tendencies that Lorca has have been really charming in a creepy sort of way. But when Stamets talks I can't help but think Oh God I hate you so much already. But then sometimes those characters can end up being the best.

Aye, I think Stamets definitely has great potential to impress and surprise the audience if given the time to do so. He's probably my least favorite character at this point, but Rapp plays him so, so well straight out the gate.

He was fine. He's clearly a scientist and joined Starfleet for that reason alone, but now he's being forced to use his talent to benefit the war effort and the single person responsible for causing this shift just walked into his office. Everyone would be a bit annoyed in his shoes.
