"I expect... " A wan smile crossed Gabriel's face. "I expect you'll believe whatever you want to believe."
"That's all you have to say?"
"I'm sorry, Commander," Gabriel shrugged, "but it's rather obvious that you've made up your mind about what happened while I was with the princess, and I'm certain there's nothing else I could say that'll persuade you otherwise." Gabriel stood up and headed for the door. "You'll excuse me, Commander. I'm due on the bridge."
Connie spun around, fury flashing across her eyes. "Capta... Chikushou, Gabriel Frost, we're not done here! Not by a long shot!"
Just before he entered the door sensor's range, Gabriel stopped and looked over his shoulder. The tone of his reply was heavy with regret, carrying with it a note of sad finality.
"No, we are done."
