THUNDERSTORM!

RoJoHen

Awesome

It's the first thunderstorm of the year! I'm so pumped! This is my absolute favorite weather to fall asleep to.

The wife and I were in Louisiana last week and we had a hell of a storm. Where are you at - in the Kansas/Missouri area where the tornado(s) went through last night?

I'm up north on the border of Illinois and Iowa. I had no idea there was a tornado, but it doesn't surprise me at all. It's still windy as hell today.

I like listening to thunderstorms, but I don't think I can fall asleep to them anymore, not after last year. *shudder* We've had a few storms already this year, and apparently it's going to be a very active spring again. *double shudder*

A little off topic but I was once lulled to sleep by turbulence on a plane. True story.

Ugh... My mate lives in a house that, according to the previous owners, has been stuck by lightening over thirty times since it was built in 1901.

Even since i spent two days in that house without power, phones and gas, i've hated thunderstorms. Hell, even the genny froze to popsicle.

This is my absolute favorite weather to fall asleep to.

I can get that. Between the rumbling of the thunder, the thrumming of the rain and the whistling of the wind, it's strangely soothing.

Having said that, it's quite rare to get really, really dramatic storms in the UK. Sure, thunderstorms happen, but only rarely with full fury. But I've been in some very dramatic ones while on holiday: Greece (complete with water spouts forming in the harbour!), Florida (driving with the storm coming up fast from behind), and Barbados & Mauritius (sheets & sheets of rain without pause).

As long as the lightning doesn't cause power outages, thunderstorms definitely fall into the "cool weather" category.

Got a line of thunderstorms with tornado watches coming through right now. Yay.

Well, it was in the 50s and storming the other day. Now there is about 5 inches of snow on the ground. And it's supposed to be back up in the 60s early next week.

Gotta love March in the Midwest.

Of course it snowed. Its girls State Basketball tournement time next door here in Iowa. Happens every year.

I hate thunderstorms. The ones I experience are either so intense that they can knock out the power in my area for a day or two (if not more) or they are the precursor to tornadoes.

And btw, I love a good thunderstorm. Would have rather had that than snow today. Not a big fan of what been going on down in the south central/eastern states though. Tornados and towns do not play well together.

Sweet Jebus, I hope everyone in the midwest US is okay! Tornadoes all over Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Tennessee, and I think a few in Alabama, too! There was a tornado west of Louisville, KY that may have been an EF-4, though they can't confirm it until they see the damage. Holton, IN is devastated from what the news can figure, and lots of other towns damaged all to hell. That storm cell missed us by about 15 miles, so all we got was heavy rain, hail and some wind, but just to our south, man!

And if you're in Eastern Ohio, Kentucky, or West Pennsylvania, batten down the hatches, it's coming your way!

have been under a Tornado warning/watch most of the day. such weird weather. it was about 70 degrees yesterday.

I don't think I've ever experienced a proper thunderstorm, except maybe once or twice in my life. They are rare where I live; sure, we may get really hard rain or big chunks of hail, and it does snow quite a bit just a couple of hours away in the mountains, but thunder and lightning happen maybe only once or twice a year. And from what friends who used to live in other parts of the country have told me, our thunderstorms are very tame compared to what they've experienced elsewhere. I do like them when they happen though, it's exciting. The one time that truly scared me was only a couple of years ago, when it was so loud that I could have sworn the lightning was hitting nearly on top of us. It's scary to hear that giant cracking sound that makes it seem like the earth is splitting into pieces.

Yeah, I don't know what we did, but Mother Nature is pissed at us right now.

I stand by my theory (I've had this theory for several years...ever since El Niño became a thing) that Mother Nature is going through Menopause.

Got a bit of thunder here earlier. Now I hear an awesome wind. Sounds lovely... makes me want to sleep.
