well that's what they call it, but it's really Orci/Kurtzman talking about the some of the plot and what the fans want or speculate with the trailer mixed in. It must be recently filmed since they mention that McCoy isn't in poster #3.

You can watch it here (direct link). THR.com

Oh sweetness. Honestly, the more these guys talk about it, the better I feel about this movie.

The only real reveals are that there is going to be something relating to the Kobiashi Maru scenario and that possibly Nimoy interacts with more of the crew than just Kirk.

I really can't wait for this movie.

We know NimoySpock interacts with young Spock, Kirk, and Scotty. Who else, we don't know, yet.

I'm interested about the bit where people haven't quite guessed what exactly Nero is trying to do in this timeline. I wonder if the release of Countdown 4 has told us, or if we are still guessing.

Good interesting interview.

Those who bitch and moan about them and send them hate mail... really need to grow up.

To paraphrase a certain communications officer, I sure hope they know what they are doing. ;)

Seriously, it looks like they probably do.

If what I am hearing about NuTrek possibly overwriting Original Canon instead of existing in some parallel way is true then they may get a nasty message from me too.

So these are the two guys who are reportedly coming my my house to take away all my Trek stuff and replace it with their version?

I think I can take them.

There is a difference between a new timeline running alongside the Original and one that completely overwrites the Original.

I've played along all this while because I thought we were getting the former but getting the later doesn't make me happy. There is still hope this isn't the case and I will still see it but it's going to have to work very hard to keep me a fan if it does overwrite.

What do you expect?

At the end of the countdown comic spock and nero are thrown back in time, not some alternative universe.

Nero is trying to change the future by altering the past. His whole goal would be meaningless unless he was altering HIS future.

Spock is so hellbent on making sure the past is not altered because it is the past of his timeline, his universe.

The movie would be pointless if they timeline would be completely unaffected, there would be no drama or suspense.

Kirk and co. went back in the past of THEIR timeline in Voyage Home.

Picard and co. went back in the past of THEIR timeline in First Contact.

Why would this rule magically go away for Spock and Nero going back into the past now?

I haven't got my copy yet so I don't know for sure but some say the time travel was an accident. Which was it, intentional or accident?

What about the mutiverse or Quantum Theory aspect we were told months ago was how this film was going to keep our original Trek DVD collections from disappearing by creating an alternate timeline?

They still happen. I mean look at it this way.

The Trek universe happens as we know it and then AFTER Nemesis Nero and Spock get thrown back in time.

From this perspective, Trek XI is a sequel to Nemesis. And thus as a viewer, a fan of the franchise you see it as:

All of trek happens
then spock/nero are thrown back in time
their actions alter the past
the "new" past plays itself out.

I mean look, Star Trek IV mostly happens in 1986 but we don't see the 1986 segment as happening "before" TOS.

It's kinda like what happens in the Planet of the Apes films in a way.
In which we see the future and then in the third one we see characters go back in time and we follow them in their new altered time line through the rest of the franchise.

No there's not. Not one blinking bit.

If this film works, any new Trek productions from here on out will be grounded in this film, not the oldTrek continuity.

Saying "it's running along side the original" is nothing more than a sop.

Since you won't be seeing any more canon Trek set in the "original timeline" you can pretend anything you like about it.

Comics, books and other non-canon stuff will play with any timeline in any way that the studio will permit (and the studio generally permits just about anything, these days).

So, since the "original timeline" is fictional and the "new timeline" is fictional and any of it can be explained in any way you choose, there is no difference between overwriting and "existing in parallel."

It's not as if anything that actually exists in the world will be changed either way.

I like the bit where they acknowledge the "Why does the bridge look like the Apple Store" question. They are totally f*cking with all of us.

I'm liking them more and more.

Kurtzman: There's no way for us to please everybody. We knew going into this...
Orci: Maybe. [smirks]
Kurtzman: ...maybe. Maybe there is, but most likely, odds are against us pleasing everybody, so you figure: Alright, the only way you can mitigate against that is to be as informed as possible.
I liked this bit.

I just have to say... Star Trek is fiction... Like, your DVD's will still have moving pictures with sound and such. They can't make them go away. Those are yours.

Second, you cannot over write the past - quantum dynamics does not work that way. So you can just know, in the back of your mind, deep down, that even though they say TOS didn't happen... it did. It did happen.

It's all yours.
