Thoughts on War

Is the US good for the money? Yes, absolutely, I believe we are. But, will having to pay it back negatively impact our quality of life? Yes, absolutely, I believe it will. The issue is especially significant, given that one of the candidates for President wants to shift the tax burden onto the poor.

"Instead of a war on poverty, we got a War on Drugs so the police can bother me."
- Tupac
Not to mention the privitization and white-collar profiteering of drug-related crimes nationwide.

We will always have war, for several reasons:

Some species like Klingons are inherently warlike, and some like the Romulans are both expansionist and warlike.

The Federation needs to expand to include as many peaceful planets and species as possible, so that it can be better equipped to wage war on expansionist warlike species.

War? War never changes.

You appear to come from the Metal Gear Solid camp of war-changing. No thx. War never changes.

War changes constantly, for the better. Just compare the original "Combat" game on the Atari 2600 to Halo 3 or some other modern offering and you wouldn't even realize that they're from the same universe, much less part of the same genre. Then look at the enormous advances in both firepower and medicine, such as the BFG 2000, health packs, and power-ups, along with real-time communications for tactical coordination.

Most of the time, it's not justified (Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan) but in the case of the World Wars or just wars that affect a country's history (Like for the US you had the Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Civil War), then to some points of view it was necessary.

All wars affect the relevant country's history.

The only thing shocking about the 9-11 terrorist attacks was the severity of it. A terrorist attack on American soil was bound to happen at some point in time.

Yes, it was. I was shocked at the moment, but quickly realized that I wasn't surprised that it had happened.
