What was the timeline between TMP and TWOK?It just seems interesting that they would create a visual progression between ENT to TOS with these uniforms when we're generally intended to believe that the Kelvin itself, whose uniforms are arguably more TOS and post-TOS looking, originate from the Prime timeline and be placed between ENT and DSC. The stylings would then be jumping back and forth from the ENT jumpsuit to streamlined TOS style uniforms to, again, ENT looking uniforms with DSC, and then back to TOS?
Not only that, but TOS is only 10 years away and ENT was a hundred years back but these uniforms feel like they're right in the middle. But then again, things like uniform design and ship design isn't necessarily a progressive evolution visually like biological lifeforms and can change completely from one design to another (despite how some people may feel)
Other than the colour, which was also seen on the Kelvin, what would you say makes them ENT like?

Also, the jackets on the DSC uniforms remind me strongly of the TOS field jackets, as well as similar lines to the Kelvin uniforms.
Exactly. Since I've never served in the armed forces, I might be incorrect, but some uniforms can also be determined by the CO?Agreed - most real-world services have anywhere between 5 and 10 different kinds of uniforms to choose from, depending on any given situation. Class-A's, Class-B's, Dress, standard duty wear, BDU's (and all their different camo flavors), different kinds of footwear and headwear, etc. In truth, the only form of Trek that's ever really come close to conveying this was the NuTrek movies, with all the different outfits they wear. Quite realistic, actually.
Yes, DSC should have several different uniforms that we can argue about.
I believe this to be true - at least it used to be, for the US Navy. The Naval Construction Forces Manual of 1969 specifies, (page 52, section 5) "The Battalion Commanding Officer issues instructions concerning the uniform requirements for men at the job site. However, directives on uniforms must conform to policies of the base or area commander".Exactly. While not always the best look, I loved the fact they had more than one. TNG killed me with them wearing the same uniform for every duty, on the bridge, crawling though the tubes, digging up relics..ugh
My favorite uniforms of all time. Except for the security officer variants, I loved every single one. I just hated when they took off the collar in TNG flashbacks. It not only made them look silly, but it also looked insanely uncomfortable. I just imagined wearing jacket over a bare torso and all the stitching and material being super irritating.
'digging up rellics'![]()
Interestingly, the high-res photo of Georgiou shows that the bright vertical line running crookedly up the front of the tunics is not the exposed teeth of a zipper but gold piping on each side of the opening. Presumably there's a zipper behind it. Odd choice.

Yeah, the jacket alone looked hella uncomfy. But so does the massive ass pocket on the field jacket. Over all I love these, honestly I would have been happy retconning these to THE standard uniform and redesigning something close for TNG era. Its silly for a military and that is what Starfleet is, to keep changing them every decade or two. Sure, parts get redesigned and uniforms change, but not that often.
And then TNG and beyond pretty much changed the uniforms three times within the same decade.
Also, cue the 'Starfleet is/is not a military' thread derailment![]()
But yeah, they changed them a lot. It really has t be put down as real world movie issue and styling but we both know people are dead set on making in universe reasoning ya know, because holy canon and all.
For some it's "canon", for some it's just fun. For someone like me, I've spent way too much time trying to explain away differences over the years, so I just count it as a reboot.
...I once got into a RL argument with someone who was screaming over some part of canon I didn't think was relevant.
