Thought exercise: One TNG episode with an unlimited budget?

Obviously the two big contenders would be BoBW and Yesterday's Enterprise. For the former, I would have shown the actual Wolf 359 battle with all new ships, and the Mars Defense Perimeter would be even more ships instead of some drones made out of model submarine parts. For the latter, I would have built Probert's original Ent-C (though I still have lots of love for Sternbach's version), and I would have given the C's crew all new uniforms, phasers, communicators, tricorders, etc., and a new bridge set. I also would have made a different design for the alternate warship Enterprise-D, and more militaristic uniforms for the crew. Finally, I would have made all new K'vort class battlecruisers for the Klingons.

Best of Both Worlds II

I think they would have shown the entire Wolf 359 battle and Picard being fully assimilated.

Doesn't need to be with an unlimited budget but I do wonder how Encounter at Farpoint would have turned out had it been produced during TNG's peak (Season 5-6, say).

Would that be with the exact same script (or some slight variations)? I think it would be fascinating to see this.

I would expect slight variations.

After all, Encounter at Farpoint was written as the show's pilot, when both writers and characters weren't familiar with what the show would become. Characters were noticeably different: Picard is grumpier, Troi acts over-emotional, Riker is a young hotshot, Tash is preaching the Federation Gospel, and so on. Taken together it results in a somewhat an off-color experience upon rewatch, when you compare it with the years the show had settled in. It couldn't have been different, it was the pilot after all, but still, I wonder what the episode would have looked like with both writers and actors having established what their characters should be like.

Oh ok, cool. For some reason I was imagining some out of continuity version of "Encounter" but just made in 1992/1993. That way you can keep the script the same without having to figure out how to change it for continuity, but on the other hand coming up with how to fit something into continuity can be the most interesting part. The past events of "All Good Things" almost give us an idea of how a better "Encounter at Farpoint" could go.

Why would that be a problem? Worf only moved to DS9 after TNG ended.

I was wondering about the tone of such a script. There would almost certainly be a 90s-inspired "dark turn" to the moral dilemma. At the very least, I expect harsher/more explicit criticisms from Q.

I've always thought that The Defector or Yesterday's Enterprise were more deserving of a slightly longer story.

Or perhaps a follow up on those parasite aliens in Conspiracy, especially since budget issues were the main reason they were never revisited.
