Re: THOR-starts shooting Jan2010: Updates, Rumors & Casting till relea
I don't think it a valid comparison no. Your a smart guy, you know that film was horrid and any comprison to it would get a reaction, I just supplied it.
Well, I think it is a valid comparison.
It would be like someone viewing sneaked Curse of the Black Pearl footage and saying, "It looks and reminds me of Cutthroat Island."
I would find that a valid criticism. Look, as you well know, opinions are subjective. How people arrive to those opinions are purely individual and unique. You can cut and arrange footage to appear in any sort of way you want, and if someone saw an early rough cut
Pirates of the Caribbean trailer and said it looked like
Cuttroat Island then I would at the very least give credence to their opinion even if I disagreed with them.
(On a lesser note, there are parts of the
Pirates films that are pretty bad)
I get that of all the variations of Thor you wanted more grandiose(really we don't know yet but I digress). That you think the sets plain. We saw for the most part spliced together footage that largely goes by in a jarring fashion ergo I think the comparison is not only not fair its not accurate.
I mentioned comparisons via the acting, which is very over-the-top, just how the acting was over-the-top in
Battlefield Earth. The set design is gaudy and ugly similar to the ugly set design of the aforementioned movie. The camera angles, in particular, just flat-out reminded me of that movie. I'm sure
Thor will be a better movie than that -- I'm guessing it'll be on the level of other such mediocre and sub-par comic-book movies like
Ghost Rider or
Fantastic Four -- but that was the initial impression I got from the trailer. Take it or leave it.
