I'm not liking what I'm seeing but then I've never been a Thor fan so what the heck do I know? the costumes look too plastic like for my tastes. Hopefully that is just due to the lighting in the pics. The movie I assume will look quite different.

It looks more alien that stuff of the Gods to me.

Well I do have to say "OF COURSE IT'S MOLDED PLASTIC! DO YOU REALLY THINK THEY WOULD MAKE THAT STUFF OUT OF ACTUAL METAL? YE GODS PEOPLE "IRON MAN"'S COSTUME WAS ACTUALLY PLASTIC TOO!"

Ahem...

Remember how crappy Iron Man's suit looked in shots like these - hell look at my avatar for a half armored - pre-CGI lookin' Iron Man - I'm pretty sure once these are shot in actual studio lighting and atmospherics are brought into play, it'll look better. I mean I was looking at one of my Thor figures and thinking "yeah those metal disks on the spandex would look kinda dorky" if made in real life. But y'know what they've done a wonderful job honoring Kirby's way out designs and details. As long as Thor says.. at least once. "HAVE AT THEE! I HAVE HAD ENOW! AYE! VERILY!" I'll be a happy geek.

In the old days of Jack Kirby, Asgard looked decidedly more alien than Norse, and garishly golden, too. For example, see this page. So I'm not disappointed they are going this route.

The inspiration is quite obvious.

maybe everyone has seen hi-res versions, but at Dark Horizons, by clicking on the pics, you can then go to hi-res versions, which can be enlarged, allowing really detailed views of them. The armour looks way better here than in some of the other pics I've seen.

Those hi-res pics look great!! They seem to have nailed Loki's helmet and the golden throne room has a very Kirby feel to it.

Geez, those pictures of Asgard REALLY remind of Supertown from the New Gods comics. Clearly Kirby was drawing on past work there.

Director Kenneth Branagh probably thought a winged helmet would look dumb.

They probably tested the helmet with live-action and realized it just didn't work.

I don't recall where, maybe in this thread, but Thor is going to have a helmet at some point. Not sure if wings will be on it though.

Frankly, I'm all for them saving something as a surprise in the film. I felt that was one flaw in the IM:2 promo stuff. They gave out nearly 98% of the cool stuff in promo ads.
