Just watched this movie today and it was fantastic. Whether you're a Superhero movie fan or not def worth a watch entertaining from start to finish

I saw Thor: Magnavox yesterday and enjoyed it immensely. Especially over the disappointing outings from Thor & Thor: The Shark Hurled.

Frankly, I prefer those two movies over this new one. At least the humor and drama were properly presented, which is more than I can say for "Thor: Ragnarok". I was very disappointed with this film. So much potential thrown away, because Marvel was too afraid to provide a more dramatic movie. How sad.

But what if Ragnarok is a comedy with action elements?

That's what we got.

Well, there were certainly some darker elements to the film, but the trailers certainly focused more on the comedy, ala the Guardians movies, than on the death and destruction. And, as I said above, while the film certainly did have its fans, if they had turned out another Dark World, the movie would not be nearly as well received. A change in tone was desperately needed for this franchise if it were to move forward and not stagnate.

I think that the concern here is that the success of the comedies leads us into another era of comic book movies not being able to take themselves seriously by virtue of being comic book movies. Do we want that?

It was a weak film, and just a paper-thin jumping off point for the Avengers movies. I do not know how some (thankfully) small number of fans can claim this is the best MCU film. That's like saying Batman and Robin was the best of the Burton/Schumacher series.

Of course not. But it's ridiculous to say That a Thor movie can't be funny. There have been serious James Bond movies and there have been very humorous James Bond movies. But they are still James Bond movies.

Would like some cheese with your whine? Moreso than before?

I know you hate the idea of the movies being connected, but deal with it.

Typical Anwar: flaming because some are not falling to their knees thinking this Thor film actually had value.

Any production that only exists to refer to/lead another is weak.

Then it's a good thing that that isn't the case here.

It resolves the hanging plot threads from the Dark World, resolves Odin's arc, resolves the conflict between Thor and Loki (at least temporarily), and brings Thor's story full circle in that when we first met him he was about to be crowned King, and where we leave him now, he finally accepts that role. It does actually work as the conclusion of the trilogy.

There was some setup for the next Avengers movie, but this is a shared universe. Deal with it.

But none of the James Bond movies were a totally different genre (action vs comedy) the way Thor was.

It was more of a comedy than any other marvel movie. Mixed feeling on the action. Some was awesome and some was too choreographed and just ended up being distracting. Overall, I liked it. Wasn't great, but good.

Good thing Ragnarok wasn't, but because it had any connection whatsoever to the rest of the Universe instead of pretending it existed in a vacuum you have this notion that it's set up for another film only.

That's why the movie also had Bruce Banner aka the Hulk, a SHIELD Quinjet, the Tesseract, Thanos' ship and Natasha Romanoff's image, as well. Those didn't bother me. However, I didn't need Doctor Strange or constant reminders of Tony Stark.
The Dr, Strage bit was Classic Sorcerer Supreme circa late 1970ies and early 1980ies - LOVED IT.

You're a Marvel fanboy, so you will never see the truth of a largely thin film series, or how most of the movies--none even a decade old--do not stand on their own as an independent story worth revisiting. Its all hooking one film into the next, and into the next, usually leaving the previous film forgettable. Only Cap 1 and 2 are strong enough as independent stories to be re-watchable, keeping The Official Easter Egg / Cheap, Teasing Link Guide to the Marvel Universe stuff to a bare minimum.

True. The tone was only dipping into the silly territory in a few of the Moore films. Thankfully that was not the case in For Your Eyes Only & most of The Spy Who Loved Me--by far the best of Moore's films because they took the character seriously. All Bonds before and after Moore were presented as serious spy films, with an occasional light moment, as it was always meant to be.

In Thor 3, its crossing the border into self-parody, like a skit on a late night talk show.

Wellllll I wouldn't call them serious spy films, and I would say they all had a LOT of light moments. But they were still in the spy/action genre without fully crossing over into comedy.

Then Thor: Ragnarok may very well be the Batman Forever of the MCU.
With the studio overstepping "next time out" and going overboard and delivering their first Batman & Robin to audiences. They won't realize they've gone a Rainbow Bridge too far until it's too late and their reputation has some tarnish on it.

I say "next time" because Black Panther, Infinity War along with Ant-Man & the wasp are all in Post with Avengers 4 shooting. Captain Marvel could see some script changes if need be.
The only one of the 3 where heavy humor elements works is A&W. I want BP and IW to be more serious ala Winter Soldier.
