Thor get a new director

That was a decent movie, but it was in spite of Arnold's performance, and nowhere near a good Conan adaptation.

This will either be brilliant or a total disaster. Branagh is a hugely talented man but has rarely succeeded in making commercial cinema. However, apparently Protovich's script is quite lyrical and period - lots of 'thou', 'thee' etc. Branagh could definitely make that work, given his experience with Shakespeare. And he's more likely to cast someone like Kevin McKidd than Triple H, thank God (of Thunder).

One thing's for sure, this is a much more interesting choice than the likes of Tim Story or Brett Ratner. While the last such left-field choice - Ang Lee - resulted in noble failure rather than outright success, no-one can accuse Marvel of playing it safe or predictable with this choice. Here's hoping Kenny does for Thor what Singer did for the X-Men or Nolan for the Bat.

Ooo, McKidd would be a fantastic Donald Blake/Thor. Make it happen, Branagh!

Very interesting. But Matthew Vaughan isn't doing it anymore??? Well then, get Vaughan on Superman!!!

Donald Blake isn't in the movie, but even if he was, they wouldn't be played by the same person.

He left late last year, I believe; he's currently directing another comic adaptation, Mark Millar's Kick-Ass.

Fair enough. McKidd would still be awesome as Thor.
I could see him in the role.

Having Branagh as director would given the casting department the inside line to the finest British actors around. Ooh, Brian Blessed as Odin.

I think everyone's talking about Rome-era Kevin McKidd. ;)

He'd bring a certain gravitas to the role, which probably why the Internet's enthusiastic about him.

It could be, but he's a pretty good actor, too. And his character was fairly intense.

Besides, how is picking an American Gladiator to play a superhero "thinking outside the box?"

There's a fine line between picking someone for playing a similar role for experience and just having them ape the previous role, regardless of fitness; Thor would be very different from his Rome character, but McKidd has shown that he works well in that period (another example would be the people who suggest Lucy Lawless as Wonder Woman, who, I expect, mainly expect to just see Xena in Diana's costume, despite the fact that they're completely different).

Hmm. Ya don't suppose people are picking him because they've seen him before in a toga and cape and can't think outside the box, do ya?
Sorry, I just figured having an actual actor play the character would be nice.

Shush now. It's better to get a wrestler who can barely speak let alone emote because he just looks like the drawing.

We wouldn't want...talent involved in the movie...would we?
