THOR Comic Con Trailer leaked

I don't know, maybe it's because I have only the most passing familarity with the source material but that looks pretty goofy to me.

Dailymotion has removed the video as well megavideo, but lets wait for a proper trailer to be released before we make judgement on ThOR just yet agreed.

Signed

Buck Rogers

Hey just because *you* couldn't find the link...

I like the casting diversity of the gods... Why should they all look Scandinavian? (and I say that as a Scandinavian) :)

Cultural mix-up aside, I was one of those who had argued for the more homogeneous casting of Asgardians. It would seem to me that Norse deities would tend to look like the Norse, and not ethnic groups they had little to no knowledge of--like the man said, we craft god(s) in our own image. But that was with the idea of crafting an Asgard as authentic to the mythology as possible. From the trailer, it's pretty clear they've gone in the opposite direction entirely, making the Asgard akin to some kind of alien species. In that context, it really doesn't matter--they could just as easily have been little grey dudes with bulging black eyes.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

It all looks disturbingly like that Dolph Lundgren "Masters Of The Universe" movie.

A little like this as well (though to be fair I think COR probably cribbed from Thor in the first place):

Holy EFFIN SHIIT MANG! is all i gotta say.

haha, Agent: "Is that one of Starks?"

Coulson: "I don't know that guy never tells me anything."

The guy playing Loki looks like a young Brent Spiner.

Technically, all the norse/nordic gods were white guys, and I couldn't remember Hogun looking mongol-like (though different artists could've had different ideas), but like I said it's been 15+ years since I read any comics.
I've read somewhere that the original inspiration for the character was Charles Bronson, and he had Tatar ancestry. Also, his attire (especially the hat) look a bit Mongol-inspired to me.

You're gonna regret having posted that when darkwing_duck1 comes knocking at your door. :p

I understood you point, and it was a good one. On the other hand, my feeling was always that Marvel's Asgardians were not the same as the Norse Aesir (whom could be interpreted in-continuity as cultural interpretations of the "actual" beings), so it was never a problem with me. In fact, I'm quite happy they went for the sci-fi look, instead of trying to shoe-horn faux-medieval Vikings into the Marvel movie universe. It worked for LOTR, but I don't think it would have worked in this instance.

I dunno, but changing the ethnicity in some cruddy movie based on an overly loved kid's cartoon was reason enough for everyone to hate it. (M. Night's name didn't help, either.)

They've (whoever they are) done that multi-ethnic gods thing in Percy Jackson and maybe Clash of the Titans (if Alexander Siddig counts).

I think outrage over ethnic casting decisions only goes one way. I won't argue whether it should or shouldn't but that seems to be the case.

The premise here, of course, is quite different - these "gods" were never created by the Norse in their own or anyone else's images, but have their own prior existence which became known in some way to the Norse. So, there's no more or less logic to them appearing as people who look somewhat different from one another than there is to them appearing as people at all.

Since institutional and cultural racism in the West favors whites, I've got no trouble stating that the one-way "outrage" is justified.

The Kingpin and Nick Fury.

Not sure if I'm misinterpreting what you mean here, but Nick Fury being black wasn't a movie decision. He's just based on the Ultimates version of Fury, who was in turn based on Samuel L. Jackson.

Wow, I was not expecting that. The costume itself still looks pretty goofy unfortunately, but the movie looks freakin AWESOME.

Movie still looks kick ass and as silly as it sounds, but I kind of get a Flight of the Navigator vibe in the earlier part of the trailer. Anybody else?

That trailer seemed all over the place. I have a passing familiarity with the character (mostly from a friend who's into comics) and I don't really know what that trailer was trying to say (or sell). I imagine it will be worse with the general public.

Really? I don't know the character very well either, but that seemed pretty straightforward to me. He's exiled to Earth, captured by Shield, and eventually has to help fight the spiky metal guy.

I thought it had a really nice, epic feel to it.

Pretty much all stuff we've seen before. I'd say he is a warrior banished from his dimension to our world. He meets a chick and her friend, S.H.I.E.L.D. later detains him, he gets out, all while theirs a power struggle for Odins throne, most likely at Loki's hands. Somebody escapes from Asgard to our world to tell Thor he needs to go back and take his rightful place because Loki's a terrible ruler and not only does Loki want to rule Asgard but now Earth, so he sends The Destoyer and hilarity ensues. Thor prevails in the end, but feels like Earth is his home now and he gives his seat as king to his bestest buddy in all of Asgard and yea hilarity ensues again. I think that pretty much sums up my take of how the film will turn out, although I could be way off. Still bad ass though. I will definitely see it!

Now that the trailer's been more or less officially posted online, it's time to comment on it.

Overall, I like what I see, but do think that it was specifically tailored to appeal to the Comic-Con attendees, and that if it - or parts of it - end up being part of the eventual official release trailer, there is going to be some rearranging done in order to convey more of a sense of what the film's story is.

One thing that stood out to me is just how different Anthony Hopkins looks and sounds as Odin; the costume hides most of his recognizable features, and his voice is a lot slower and deeper.

It's definitely more of a "presentation" than a trailer... a "sizzle reel".

^ I know that, but was trying to point out that it really wasn't structured like a proper trailer since there were a few people commenting that they were a bit confused by the whole thing. :)

Yes... I was agreeing with you, in a rather confusing fashion that I recognize now.

I really dont know what there is to be confused about. I think I laid out the plot rather handily. Again I could be way off, but I kind of doubt it. So SPOILER ALERT!!!!
:guffaw:

The Asgard scenes look great - I love all the Kirbyisms. Not too sure about the girlfriend/Thor-as-construction-worker angle.
I wonder if this guy can act (or if he'll have to).
The Stark reference was cute.
But where's Don Blake?
