Thomas Dolby Hired By Johns Hopkins University

Most people have a news ticker in their browser or easy access to news sites. The reason they come here is to discuss the news in a little more in-depth fashion than saying "hey, that's interesting." You have to give us more than just posting a link and a brief description of a story. Give us a premise to discuss. Do you think it's silly that he was given that job? Do you think it's good that it promotes the arts? Why?

Sorry about the abruptness of the post, I was in the midst of refereeing a dispute among the grandkids while preparing the post.

Until reading the article, I only knew about him through his one hit wonder. It was interesting to read about all he has been up to since then, especially his interest in innovative technologies. Plus being married to Kathleen Beller is a point in his favor.

Anyway, if this proves to be a blah thread please feel free to delete it.

Now he's blinded by the Arts and Sciences.

Actually, I think this is pretty cool. It's kind of interesting what happens to people sometimes after a brush with fame-- sometimes they fade into obscurity with the rest of us, and sometimes they live unexpectedly influential lives. A while ago, I heard "A Good Love" by Feargal Sharkey, which many people consider to be painfully bad, and decided to look him up. Apparently he is quite admired and influential in the industry.

Mr WillsBabe and I have several Thomas Dolby albums. Some of his stuff has a very melancholic, atmospheric quality to it. Flat Earth is one of my favourites. It's good to see that he's still sought-after.
