THIS would piss me off to no end!

It would be weird to call this an origins story and then wipe out all the history that came after it. If the origins story was the "big" untold story of this crew, then why bother if it doesn's somehow fit in with the crew's long history of adventures together?
I certainly don't think that at the end we'll all of a sudden see everything revert back to the TOS look, but I won't be surprised if there is some sign (that fans especially will pick up) that the movie preserves Trek history as we know it. The movie will fit in with everything that's gone before as well as all that has come before it already fits together. Which is mostly a loose fit, anyway.

I suspect that nothing that happens in Star Trek XI will piss me off to no end.

And in these parts, that makes me abnormal.

Same here.

I'm too lazy to dig up the MST3K quote about just relaxing. I will, however, reference it as I just did here, which will fulfill the over-used quotient of said quote, but still allow me to be a lazy ass.

(which is all I care about in the end)

I believe the quote your looking for is "It's just a TV show so sit back and relax" Which I very much agree with.

I would accept a subtile change, such as the Enterprise being so badly damaged at the end that the nacelles or the bridge were replaced with something more familiar-looking. Not a copy of the TV versions, but just a scooch closer...

Anyway, I'm way beyond the point where anything that happens in a TV show or movie pisses me off.

If Star Trek ends with Old Spock (my favorite Vulcan aftershave, BTW "Old Spock: It would be illogical for her to resist you") fiddling with the timeline and the resulting effect would make the entire asthetic of the film (ship designs, uniforms, bridge design, etc.) revert to the '60 TOS feel. I know there are a minority of whack jobs out there that would love that, but if it happens, I will NOT watch, read, or even post about Star Trek ever again. It would indicate that Abrams and Paramount caved in to the canonistas and the inmates truly run the asylum and Trek would be truly deader than dead.
What the hell is going on in your head that makes you think this is even a possibility?

Actually, I think that would be pretty cool.
I agree. But it's too much to hope for. They're not going to defeat Nero and have a blinding light spread across the bridge, revealing the original cast back in their rightful places.

The most we can hope for, is a revelation that Nimoy-Spock is from another universe...

I won't say it would piss me off. But, I will say that I doubt it will happen as well. It would be a pretty good-sized cop out for an otherwise ballsey move. And, a lot of the interviews have the cast and crew hoping for additional movies. Based on that alone, I think JJ will leave everything exactly as he had it in Trek XI.

Ballsy? Remaking an old tv show that has high name recognition with hot young actors and 'splosions really isn't ballsy in the slightest. It's pretty much the safest thing a studio can do right now. Everybody and their mother has been "rejuvenating their franchises" over the last 4 or 5 years.

Boldy going where everyone has long since gone...
