This makes a TNG/DS9 fan love TOS

Star Treks

I grew up in the late 80's and early 90s's. The first Trek I ever saw was TNG... and it became my favorite series for this reason. For me, Picard, Data, and Riker have always been "my" Star Trek.

Later spinoffs arrived. I really love DS9 and probably it is the best series, even if it doesn't have quite the same nostalgic value for me. But being a fan of the whole Trek universe I of course watched all of the movies, VOY, ENT, and TOS on DVD. I like 'em all...
but I've always felt like TOS just wasn't "my" Trek. I like it, but I have always considered myself more in-tune with the 24th century stuff.

That's chaged. Because of this movie I feel genuinely interested in Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and the rest of the original crew. Somehow those original episodes seem to have taken a slightly greater resonance in my mind. I am filled with an urge to re-rewatch the TOS movies and even the whole series again. And I genuinely want to know what's going to happen with these characters in this new universe.

I feel like somehow I've connected with these characters in a way that I hadn't since I was a little kid wodering if Data would ever experience emotion or if Picard and Beverly would ever end up together. I know it sounds silly but for the first time I feel like TOS is "my" Star Trek... my appreciation of the universe has expanded... and for that I'm really greatful for this fantastic film, a movie that despite some flaws manages to breathe an unheard of amount of new life into the Star Trek franchise.

Excellent! Glad you enjoyed it.

Wish it could make a TOS/DS9 fan love TNG.

Just sayin'......

not possible, DS9 and TOS are in a league of there own, though DS9 could have done with less relgion in it, but DS9 was better than TNG. Im a product of the 80's but i grew up watching TOS not TNG.

I always had great affection for TOS, because when I firs tsaw it I was super tiny. But form the time I was a teenager and saw TNG, I did regard the original series as a bit rough. Now like you, I have a whole new appreciation for it.

Great opinion there, and I'm glad you've now become a fan of TOS. :)

The sad thing is, however...

now that Nero's ship has appeared and disrupted the timeline (destroying the Kelvin early, wiping out Vulcan, etc.) we might not even see a nu-TNG or a nu-DS9 etc. (or at least it'll be TNG, Jim, but not as we know it) :(

^ I'm guessing the Cardassians will still build Terok Nor and occupy Bajor though.

But that's exciting in itself, isn't it? A whole new future to explore, with endless possibilities.

I suppose it is.

I have allways liked the tos moves, more than Tos itself, which to be honest i thought was slow and boring *dont shoot me!!* But latley i find myself enjoying tos more!
