This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future.

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

Please. This has nothing to do with "sources." This is just you trying to pick fights. Don't take it out on us just because you have an inability to lighten up and have fun, or because you have an incessant need to be hostile to other board members. If that's all you're here for, then go take out your pent-up aggression somewhere else.

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

Looks like another guy who has problem with sources joins the party.
By the way, didn't your doc tell you that the little voices in your head constitute I and not we?

Weren't you done?

Really it's the sign of a weak position, among other things, when you counter with personal insults in a debate.

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

Sourcing problems, huh?

I prefer Chicago Manual.

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

With regards to the excerpt posted by the OP:

Sounds like a "I want something with good ROI / ratings, and I want it NOW" mentality from TV execs.

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

Things are better now then fifty years ago, a hundred years ago, and a thousand years ago. It serves no purpose to insist otherwise, there is less war (not none), less famine (not none), more health, more food, more education, more clean water, more sanitation, more communication, more prosperity, more freedom, around the world (first, second, and third world) than there was even a few decades ago.

No things aren't perfect, but they are better across the board.

Now sure horatio83, you could likely come up with isolated examples of localized problems, they do exist, but those isolated examples are getting fewer every year. And their occurances are becoming wider spread apart in years.

Gonna have to call BS on this one. Aspects of our technologies have improved, and social progress in some areas has as well, but there are some serious problem areas such as wealth distribution and generalized prosperity vs resource concentration. Our technologies have made stuff cheaper, but destroyed millions of jobs, particularly in the first world, and other technologies ( aspects of the Internet, and GMO foods, for example) are particularly problematic.

Not all "progress" is good.

Yes, there are still serious problems, but many such problems were solved - even in the last decades; this is blindingly obvious when we consider the last century, the last 200 years, etc.

And scientific progress was never kind to those whose livelihood it destroyed (see the industrial revolution); but in the end, humanity, when pluses and minuses were considered, was always better off.

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

We should keep this thread alive till the next series is actually on the air. :)

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

3 years is now the horizon for the word "Foreseeable".

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

Not every new series that's announced actually makes it to the air, we'll see.

There are no rules against resurrection.
I'm optimistic TPTB won't be so cruel this time, TGirl.

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

Generally speaking, "necroing" (ah, what an e-term) old threads is frowned-upon. Given the last thing that was said here before said necro, however, I'd argue it was worth it this time.

Every STar Trek series has though. ST:Phase 2 was converted to a $43 million movie. There are no other examples.

I didn't say there was. I asked what the point was in rehashing information we already knew, and needing to bring a three year old thread back from the dead to do it.

I think it's a good sign that we've already been given "January 2017" and pilot airing plans on the main network. Most projects that fall apart don't get announced with such detail.

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

I think such an early date like January 2017 is a good sign.

It's the "This is what we know now that wasn't the case three years ago" factor.
;)

Re: This is why there will be no new TV Trek for the forseeable future

If you go back and read anything in this forum about predictions, or what Jonathan Frakes has to say, or anyone else associated with Star Trek, they're all good for a laugh. Most of it was wrong.
