    Well, OP still was tecnically correct though. That CBS would step into the paid-streaming tv niché, the success of said niché, as well as the rise of 'nerd-shows' like the Arrowverse, Supergirl and Marvels various shows weren't exactly "forseeable".

    ^I don't know about that. A lot of people have speculated over the years that we might get a new TV series after the trilogy had run its course. I, for one, always expected that Trek would return to TV eventually. After all, CBS Television owns Trek, and licenses the movie rights to Paramount. So CBS has to share control over the film franchise. It makes perfect sense that CBS would want to do a new TV series, something they'd have full control over. So you didn't have to anticipate the paid-streaming niche (one syllable, no accent) to expect that Trek would return to TV before too much longer.
