Well, according to the map that was posted, it is only 500 feet from the World Trade Center. The questions that might pop up in someone's mind are whether the mosque will end up with a radical imam who adds some sort of "hall of martyrdom" or calls it the "Al-Atta Mosque." Another question: Given the territorial nature of Islam (any place ruled under Islam must forever remain Islamic), and its proximity to Ground Zero, will this mosque become a rallying point for radicals, much like the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem?

Our Mission:

Cordoba Initiative aims to achieve a tipping point in Muslim-West relations within the next decade, bringing back the atmosphere of interfaith tolerance and respect that we have longed for since Muslims, Christians and Jews lived together in harmony and prosperity eight hundred years ago.

Solving some of the most intractable conflicts in the world today requires innovative strategies for cross-cultural engagement. Cordoba Initiative tackles this mandate with forethought, expertise and the ability to leverage contacts in influential positions within the Muslim World and the West. Thinking outside the box about international and intercultural conflict resolution also means thinking introspectively about each side's place within its own historical narrative with a view to devising internally oriented solutions.

The article that you linked to is actually about a bunch of bigots protesting the construction of a Mosque in New York. Hopefully, they will be sent scurrying back to their little Talk Radio shows and tinfoil-hatted websites. This is America, after all, where we have religious freedom and do not practice guilt by association.

Last I heard on the news -- unless it has changed since then -- the opening date is: September 11th, ten years from the date the towers were attacked.

Yeah, sure. Nothing wrong here.

If that's true, so what? They're not denying that they chose a location near Ground Zero for symbolic purposes, and the date would fit that symbolic meaning. They're trying to counteract the worst that can come from Islam by showing the best that can come from it as well. It's an organization devoted to mediation and understanding between religions.

What exactly do people think is going to happen? That they're going to have a sleeper cell in the most high profile place imaginable? People need to get a grip and get over their ridiculous fears.

During the Crusades?

It's a good thing that John200 didn't post this in TNZ, or I would feel compelled to call him (censored), and different rules apply, I will refrain from calling him that, even though I believe it to be the truth, with all my heart. Instead I will make do with calling him "A very misguided individual".

IO'd like to extend an invitation to John200 to join us in TNZ, where we can express ourselves more freely.

The Cordoba Initiative? That didn't work out to well for the Christians in Cordoba who sold their church to the Muslims, who turned it into a mosque as the city became capital of an Islamic caliphate. Al Qaeda is still actively trying to reconquer al-Andalus and Spain has become a center for recruiting suicide bombers.

During the Crusades?

This is what they're referring to:

Reading the news today, many people find it hard to believe that Muslims and their Christian or Jewish brethren can live side by side in peace – and flourish. But that’s exactly what happened in Cordoba, Spain for generations – and that’s what can happen now, too.

There's quite a bit of historical beer goggles being worn there, but their hearts are at least in the right place.

The Cordoba Initiative? That didn't work out to well for the Christians in Cordoba who sold their church to the Muslims, who turned it into a mosque as the city became capital of an Islamic caliphate. Yep, this organization is dedicated to reconquering Spain by building a big HQ in New York. You've uncovered their ruse.

A terrorist religion at ground zero.

I'm Canadian ,but I feel for the victims of the 911 attacks.

PC madness must end for the good of the world.

A terrorist religion.

I can't respond to this thread in the manner I want to.

Please open a duplicate in TNZ.

Emphasis mine. To translate this properly, you want to be able to respond in a manner which involves not an intelligent rebuttal, but rather a vitriolic attack laden with profanity and other ranting.

I laugh that people stated in this thread that intelligent discussions can happen in TNZ. If any do, it's purely by accident. TNZ is the refuge of hacks and non-thinking, narcissistic drones.

Seriously, step up to the plate here and put forth an intelligent rebuttal.

I can't offer an intelligent rebuttal as no intelligent argument or case was made. As "'dem Ayrabs are evul and cant build der church" isn't an intelligent argument.

They can live side by side, in peace, as long as the country is ruled under sharia law (Until fairly recently Muslims refused to live in non-Muslim countries) and as long as the Christians and Jews pay the jizya so they can continue to live as dhimmi, which means they could not bear arms, could not leave for a non-Muslim country, etc.

First point -- Terrorist religion
Second point -- PC Madness

Have at it.

Well with stating that I'm a Canadian I figured I'd just let people know that this is an outsiders perspective ,and not a party line.

Amazingly, moronic bigots aren't just limited to the United States.
