If that's true, so what? They're not denying that they chose a location near Ground Zero for symbolic purposes, and the date would fit that symbolic meaning. They're trying to counteract the worst that can come from Islam by showing the best that can come from it as well. It's an organization devoted to mediation and understanding between religions.

What exactly do people think is going to happen? That they're going to have a sleeper cell in the most high profile place imaginable? People need to get a grip and get over their ridiculous fears.

That didn't work out to well for the Christians in Cordoba who sold their church to the Muslims, who turned it into a mosque as the city became capital of an Islamic caliphate. Al Qaeda is still actively trying to reconquer al-Andalus and Spain has become a center for recruiting suicide bombers.

They can live side by side, in peace, as long as the country is ruled under sharia law (Until fairly recently Muslims refused to live in non-Muslim countries) and as long as the Christians and Jews pay the jizya so they can continue to live as dhimmi, which means they could not bear arms, could not leave for a non-Muslim country, etc.
