A few months ago an author contacted me and asked if he could use one of the pictures I had up on Flickr in his book. I agreed so long as I was credited and received a copy.

It is a lot nicer book than I thought it would be.

Its titled "The Gardener's Guide to Growing Money Trees: intriguing reflections on money and life". It is basically is an inspirational book with lovely photos and messages.

My picture is only small and in a corner but I am pleased that it was good enough to be in this book.

One other time I was contacted by someone who wanted to use my photo on a tourist website. Once again I said yes as long as I was credited.

Now if only I could find a way to make actually make money from ny photos.

This is the photo that was used.

Only the bird itself was used. He was photoshopped and put on a different branch. Each chapter beginning had a different bird on the same branch.

It is a Tasmanian Magpie (which is a subspecies of the Australian Magpie).

Magpies are a type of crow aren't they? They're supposed to be pretty clever.

The European Magpie (family Corvidae) is in the same family as crows but the Australian Magpie is in the family Artamidae and is closely related to the butcherbirds.

Here is a photo I took of a Forest Raven which is the only member of the crow family that lives in Tasmania.

I had a similar experience about a year and a half ago. Geek magazine ran an article on the closing of the Star Trek Experience and asked to use this picture in the article. My wife was a little disappointed when they cropped her out of it, but they credited me and sent me a free copy. Here's how it looked in the magazine: Magazine picture
