What do you think will happen? Asteroid impact? Alien invasion? Sun going nova? Satan leaving South Park and coming out of all of our tv screens?

Or nothing at all.

Most two common things IMO, which seem realistic to me, are:

1.) Asteroid impact, darn things are flyin near us, and they don't spot every one, and by the time they do spot one that is headed toward Earth, it is usually too late to do anything about it. There are near misses, and I think there is a possibility of a hit eventually, I know there is at least one Asteroid that is scheduled to come close, Apophis I believe, I know its a ways out, but what if there is another that we just haven't seen yet.

2.) It is fact that 2012 is a year of Solar Maximum, meaning, increased solar activity including solar flares. Perhaps these flares will impact our satellites and other electronic equipment on Earth, not saying it is end of the world type stuff, but any disruption in our electronics and communication can affect a lot of people, and could cause panic if there is widespread outages.

2012 could be what they had feared for Y2K happening, if there was say an EMP from the Sun that knocked everything out.

Certainly none of this apocalypse crap. The Mayans didn't even fucking PREDICT one, so why bother? (The Mayan calendar does not predict the end of the world; just switching to a new cycle. This will no more be the end of the world than your car's odometer switching over to 1,000 miles.)

some even predicted a Mad Max style world...

Some of the more...fanatical... thought that the Last Trump was about to happen.

Some others were convinced that the "Aliens would take over"..



None of that came to pass...

Now it's 2012..and the WORLD IS GONNA END!!!


The issue of Doomsday has happened a lot in my lifetime...


It sells books, and survival supplies..And in the case of the Y2K..a LOT of high tech companies made PILES of money on the hysteria...

The 2012 internet obsession is infintely better than the lolcatz period. Even the (unrelated, but still annoying) phrase "pew pew" is more overused these days. So...whatever.

Sidenote, if the Mayans were any good at all with foreseeing the future, you'd think they would have seen and prevented their own demise.

^It's a beautiful song. I actually saw it in the Union Square theater on Sept 12th, 2001. They were playing free movies there because Manhattan was closed below 14th street after the attacks. It was good escapism. I saw the Off Broadway show too, and I'd recommend that soundtrack, highly!
