[this band]'s Stairway to Heaven

Sweet Home Alabama-Skynrd

Dust In the Wind-Kansas

RUSH- Tom Sawyer

YES- Roundabout

Blue Oyster Cult-Don't Fear the Reaper

The Stones- Satisfaction(and I still groove to it when it comes on the radio)

The Who- Won't Get Fooled Again

There's a few to contemplate...

I'd argue 'Free Bird' for Skynyrd's cliche 'Stairway' song.

I'd argue 'Point of Know Return' for Kansas

I'm with you on all the others here.

'Stairway to Heaven' is a good song, but its so overplayed, and not even close to my favourite Led Zeppelin song. There's so much more to them than that.

My choices:

Radiohead's 'Creep'
Sex Pistols 'Anarchy In The UK'
Cream's 'Sunshine of Your Love'
Judas Priest's 'You've Got Another Thing Comin'
Ozzy Osbourne's 'Crazy Train'
Black Sabbath's 'Iron Man'
The Smiths 'How Soon Is Now?'
Iron Maiden's 'The Number of the Beast'
Dream Theater's 'Pull Me Under'

Dust In The Wind would be closer for Kansas. Similar to Stairway in that it's a little off the beaten path for the particular group.

Same with KISS - Beth.

Mistral, I'm an American from New Mexico, so that's no excuse. :) I think I have all of Glass Tiger's releases that made it to the states... I know there was a greatest hits that came out long ago as well.

As for Canadian rock in general, I'm a big fan of everything from Triumph, April Wine and Saga to Great Big Sea, although I don't know if you can call GBS purely "rock"... Great Big Sea's last couple of CD's have been damn good and I loved seeing them when they came to ABQ in concert. Had a drink with Alan after the show. Nice guy!

As for Triumph's "Stairway" I think there might be some disagreement. "Magic Power" was certainly the biggest "hit" IIRC, but "Never Surrender" and "Hold On" are certainly still mainstays on AOR radio around here. Thunder Seven was my first love when it came to Triumph.. Such a fantastic album.

Hold On. No argument there. Although my personal fav years ago was (hope I recall the title right, lol)

Blinding Light Show/Moonchild

And we had Tower(not a big one) and Roads To Moscow used records. Tower was a Madonna/Prince enclave back then and Roads.... leaned towards Black Flag. So not a lot of Glass Tiger to be had....at least, not within biking distance....

Forgot all about April Wine. They had a song I loved when I was about 15...a real hard rocker. Album-Harder, faster(?)

Gah, it's hell growing old...

Scorpions- Rock You Like a Hurricane

but Winds of Change is my favorite, recorded live in Moscow or Berlin, IIRC.

I cited Sweet Home Alabama because I don't hear Freebird too much anymore but that other song won't go away.... :scream:

I'd argue that Led Zep's Stairway is actually... Kashmir. :D

Kashmir came out after STH, and over all is just a better song (just), as well as getting a lot of airplay.

That's the album which has their cover of King Crimson's "21st-Century Schizoid Man".

Better song doesn't really have anything to do with this. It's just gotta be an overplayed song. Stairway is a staple of Classic Rock stations everywhere. Besides, you can't argue the thread title :p

Re: The Stones

More overplayed: Can't Get No Satisfaction or Jumping Jack Flash?

Can't Get No Satisfaction was their early breakout hit but I think I've heard Jumping Jack Flash more often. Still like both pretty well.

That may just have been the local rock station that overplayed that one.
