I get the feeling it will be all or nothing: Either this movie will be a big hit and jump-start the franchise again, a la Casino Royale and Batman Begins, or land with a thud like Nemesis and finally kill off Star Trek dead, dead, dead - nothing in-between.

As for which of these outcomes is most likely, as others have already stated, the jury is still out, and a long way from returning a verdict.

And dare I even ask, is it possible it may be the first Trek movie ever to get an Oscar nomination that isn't for anything technical?

An Oscar is pretty far out there, but this movie certainly has all the ingredients for a mainstream action-adventure success, moreso than any Trek movie before it.

I'm optimistic.
