Things you hate about DS9?

The only thing I would use the word hate for is Vic Fontaine.

Otherwise I love a lot of things mentioned in this thread, such as all the Ferengi comedy. I thought Dukat's end was fitting as was his descent into madness.

But Odo would have returned anyways regardless of her not surrendering. Because Odo's nature would compel him to stop a genocide. The Female Founder definitely would have understood that too.

i dont think he would be allowed to return if they had not surrendered..

as for not like

what they did to dukat is what i disliked the most.
it seemed in season seven while there are good episodes some of the characters in a lot of episodes lost their nuances..

the whole sisko was a son a prophet.
:wtf: it was so out of left field

The thing i disliked most actually was when DS9 faltered from its DS9-ness and had a corny moment worthy of the Amok Time fight music. People have already mentioned the Roger Moore-style clasping-your-hands-together-triples-their-strength combat, and the ridiculously not funny one liners that Dax sprouts. Also included are the standalone episode where they go all TNG for 40 minutes, like Meridian or Time's Orphan. The episodes which set up a DS9-like risky, edgy story, then had a TNG reset button at the end of the hour.

If i had to pick something overall though, it would be the way they did Dax as a character. Already mentioned of course is Farrel's inability to act, particularly compared to the rest of the cast, but i'm also referring to the way she was written - she didn't come across at all how the Companion describes her original concept as being - the wise old soul of a dozen lifetimes in a young woman's body. she came across instead merely as a unusually-lively-for-starfleet woman who was one of the less emotionally mature characters.

Quark almost got airlocked. By Rom, of all people! But nobody ever took that one giant leap for man (or Ferengi) kind...

Season 7, it was a bad way to wrap it up, Bajor not accepted into the federation, which was the plot of the entire show regardless of the war. Sisko's mom, the series finale with reused footage. Worf's memory montage without jadzia. No jadzia at all. The destruction of the defiant only to have it replaced by the exact same ship, why destroy it at all, it wasn't necessary to show that to see the power of the breen. Then there is the breen. Then there is section 31, I could go on. But in the end Season 7 is what i hate,it was a bad ending for a wonderful show. It did have a beautiful 6 year story arc until then.

I do agree it was a shame that we never say Bajor in the federation, and it could so easily have been done without adding a single scene. In the Scene at the end all you needed was Kira in a Starfleet uniform.

IIRC, the reason that didn't happen had somethign to do with Terry Ferrel and her contract or something like that.

I never liked that relationship, but considering she was a major part of the show, it kind of sucked that she wouldn't be apart of that and that a charcater who'd only been there one season would.

Peeve#246: O'Brien clearly had a jumja addiction, but it wasn't addressed onscreen. What's up with that? Is it too much to ask for an intervention?

this is a good point

They never covered this.

One thing I hated was that crap about Bashir being genetically enhanced. It was very poor continuity with what was learned about him from previous episodes. It might have worked if it were early in the series. But they waited until much later when we've learned so much about the character that the big secret about him doesn't really fit, hence the continuity problems.

I do agree about the Kira fight scenes. That whole angry bitch thing got a little tired as the show went along. And it's not all that credible that she can go hand-to-hand against Cardassians, a reptilian race, most of whom are resistant to physical torture, yet she got an ass-kicking from a woman barely taller than her (Invasive Procedures).

I can agree about Jadiza as well. Since DS9 didn't have as many Klingons as TNG early on, I thought it wasn't necessary to have her on manily as the show's Klingon liasion. Once Worf entered the picture, I was hoping this would change, but they made the character more absorbed into the Klingon culture, leaving any possible Trill-related episodes far behind. I'm glad Ezri's character was different at least in this aspect with the fact she wasn't that involved with the Klingon culture.

 Go have a donut. :p

^^^ The thing that did not make much sense with Ezri Dax is that isn't it forbidden in Trill society for a symbiont with a new host to get back in touch with people from her previous life?

DS9 is my second favorite Trek(close second to TOS), so there is little I actually hate about this show.

But with 7 seasons there are always some elements or episodes you don't really like. In television no show is perfect, even your favorite show.

But I will list a few, and I'm sure some of these have already been mentioned here (I'm new to the forum and am at work and don't have time to read all 70 or 80 posts right now).

1. Ezri Dax. Unlike many of the posts I have had time to read, I actually like Jadzia. I agree that Farrell isn't the best actress in the world, but I think she was adequate for the role. But Ezri annoyed me greatly. If Farrell wanted out, fine, they can't help that. But they could have given her a better exit, and then just drop the character completely. Ezri was unnecessary, and was so out of place on DS9. Whe would have fit better on TNG with Troi to hold her hand.

2. The finale. I understand the importance of heroic sacrifice in drama, but I just didn't feel like Sisko's apparent death(I know he wasn't really dead, but that was almost worse for those he left behind) was necessary.

3. Keiko. I just don't see what O'Brien sees in her. She creeps me out everytime I see her. As a character she has absolutely no warmth or interest.

And like any long-running show there are several eps that I just didn't particularly think were good.

But on balance, especially compared with TNG, VOY and ENT, it was about as good a Trek as we could hope to get under the circumstances.

As I've said before, it was the most TOS-like Trek in my opinion.

This rule mainly applied to former lovers, not everybody that person knew in general. If the latter were the case, Jadzia wouldn't even have been on DS9 serving under Sisko, whom Dax knew as Curzon.

Brooks' acting style was INCREDIBLY bad and made most scenes with him in them(especially when Sisko is angry or loud)almost unwatchable.

Not a good thing when he is your main character.

I hate the music.

I thought the theme was great. But the music in the shows was just bland, horn-swelling crap. Sure, it worked for TNG, but DS9 was an entirely different entity.

It absolutely drives me crazy to think they had the most talented composers in the Biz (McCarthy, Chattaway, Jones in TNG among others) and they hardly used them!

It broke my heart when they did the Tribble episode, but didn't create any TOS style music to go with it.

If there was one thing I'd like changed, it would be all the music.
