Things that frustrate us all

And having worked in a grocery store for most of my adult life, I also laugh when I remember how insane it was, working during the pandemic.

At its height, I would get to my store at 6 AM (when my shift starts) and there would be dozens of people just standing around outside, waiting for us to open. And once we opened the doors? WHOOOSH!!! It was more insane than fucking Black Friday. You wouldn't believe the rush. I'm surprised I lasted as long as I did without catching the damn bug. (I didn't get covid until Memorial Day of 2022 - and I got it from my dad, when we had dinner together!)

Can't screw around with "social distancing" bullshit, working a job like that!

And as for the vaccines? Screw it. I take whatever I'm given, without question. Covid is just too dangerous. The State tells me to get vaccinated, I get vaccinated!! What right do I have to ask questions? It's not just MY health, it's the GROUP health. I know my place - if they tell me to get the jab, I get the jab, and I put my ego in the trash.

I have enough faith in our medical professions, I trust that enough attention has been given to the vaccines to make sure they're safe.

You won't catch me buying into that right-wing whacko paranoid conspiracy shit.

I'll admit, I was a little hesitant when I first got the COVID vaccine, just because they rushed it out so fast, but I figured it was better to take a chance with it than to go unvaccinated. I also got two or three booster, and I was glad I did because when I did it wasn't that bad.
I've been thinking about getting the new one, but I am a little hesitant, but just because I've been having other medical issues that have required a lot of bloodwork, and I'm just getting tired of needles.
It's a little ironic you posted this, I was just talking with my mom about them removing the Willow series from Disney+, and what WB did with Coyote vs ACME and Batgirl this morning.

I can't even take the COVID vaccine. I'm somehow allergic to it. Had a bad side effect to it. So I keep masked when needed and my mom gets the vaccine. She hasn't run into any allergic reactions with it thankfully.

Twitter has been running into loading problems and errors a lot lately. :brickwall:

I am recovering from the 3rd time I've had covid and it's just been really crap; never had it so bad.

Sorry to hear that things were so rough. I hope the recovery goes smoothly and you're healthy again soon.

So at work, I blurted out: Next year, I don't care if you have to stick it in my eyeball, I'm getting a booster come August

I am very pro-vaccination, and have kept up with all my Covid vaccinations and boosters.

Having to inject it into my eye would be one of the few things that would instantly cause me to reverse my opinion!

I'm getting my next covid jab at the weekend.

Mate of mine refuses to have one, he was a bit of a covid denier , had quite a few lockdown parties, broke rules, would not wear a face mask, used to flash his phone when they were doing the tracking but didn't have the app installed, stuff like that.

Still maintains it was some conspiracy to keep us all in (why would any government do that anyway).

His friends mum died of covid, I just don't get it.

He did however have the jab when he needed it so he could go on holiday abroad, so it's ok if you want a holiday?

He still moans about us being in and out of lockdown so much, in my head him and others who thought they knew better are responsible, at least partially so for that.

I got the latest Covid booster shot and a 65+ flu shot on September 16. I made them fill out a new card, my other card was full. The pharmacist said they aren't required anymore. I told him I needed it so I know the last time I had a booster shot and when I need the next one. I had an uncle and a second cousin both die in Texas of Covid because they didn't follow any social distancing recommendations by the CDC and got most of their information from Fox News. The uncle died early in the pandemic before vaccines became available, the second cousin died late in the pandemic after vaccines became available, but didn't get the shot.

I have been in close proximity of two people who later tested positive for Covid, but I haven't tested positive yet. They were both vaccinated and didn't get seriously ill, even though they, like me, are in high risk groups. The worst I've felt is a sore arm for a couple of days at the injection site. For me that is better than the alternative of death or a long hospital stay hooked up to a respirator followed by long Covid and possible death anyway.

I've had my jabs but managed to get it twice. It has though been fairly mild and I've managed to keep working (at home)

One if the arguments I've heard is that the vaccine doesn't 100% prevent infection etc.

My response has been, 'do you wear a seatbelt?'. Yes of course is the response, why I ask, it doesn't guarantee you won't get injured, it only reduces the risk.

In the quest to squeeze every last bit of money from our customers - we were told on a corporate conference call this morning that tire rotations will no longer be free with every oil change.
It will now cost the customer $9 if they purchased the tires through Pep Boys, and $11 if they're non PBY tires.
Look, I understand wanting to pay the technicians for the labor involved, but why should that involve the customer?

Just read in the news today that about $8 billion's worth of government bonds in my country are expected to mature next year alongside some other measures to inject more cash into the economy to shore up consumption (in an attempt to artificially inflate the standards of living before the 2026 elections so that the aftershocks would only be felt after the government is reelected), property prices are expected to rise even more than the usual 10-15% they used to every year for the past decade or so, and coupled with inflation expected to be fairly low next year, this would mean homes actually getting significantly more expensive at real value, not just the nominal one. Coupled with constantly rising grocery and energy prices (300-400% up since 2010), this made me realize just how low the chances of me ever owning my own home are. The government doesn't care who buys apartments as long as there are buyers, and Chinese and Middle Eastern investors are really enthusiastic about buying up properties even at inflated prices. Even if I opened a home savings account tomorrow, by the time it matures when I'm 50 years old, it would practically only pay for half an apartment in a rural town, and I'd have to tighten my belt for fifteen years to the point I'd have to give up my hopes of getting feminizing HRT completely, something I absolutely don't even wish to consider now that I'm only waiting to get my lab results to actually start the treatments. I'm seriously starting to feel like I'm having the last few good years while I can still afford to rent an apartment on my own.

Pedestrians who cross the street when the left turn light turns green but their walk signal is still red, meaning the vehicles turning left have to wait for them and if a lot of them are turning, the ones in the back won’t be able to make it before it’s red again.

Conversely, car drivers who don't respect pedestrians' right of way when they're turning right onto a crossing whose walk signal is also green. Dude, no matter how long you blow your horn, rev your engine and give me the finger, I am crossing while my walk signal is green because it will have already turned red again by the time you and the five other cars behind you passed.

Drivers are impatient. I'm pulling out of my private road, which is not as wide as a regular street, and still a driver turns on to it without considering the narrowness.

Just wait.

So there is this Liverpool FC hoodie I really had my eye on.

I logged into the official LFC store and as soon as I made it clear that I wanted the hoodie shipped to the US...it all of a sudden becomes out of stock? The hell?

"Screens" and children. The amount of fighting me and my hubby go through trying to limit screen time with our 2 kids is beyond frustrating, especially with our 15yo boy. We have rules in place but it is exceedingly difficult to enforce because he has an iPhone.

-We don't allow phones at the table.
-We don't allow phones in the car.
-Youtube is banned from our house via, I dunno, some wifi thing my hubby did. But my son's phone has data so...
-We thought we were smart by not allowing tiktok until 14. Wrong!
-No video games from monday-thursday in the home...my son still manages to play.

I. can't. even.

After his phone goes bust he's getting a flip phone. Is that fair in this day and age? I dunno. I'm a GenXer who's exasperated.

FEMA workers are being threatened by armed militias. Linky

These right wing whackos need to be put down. No mercy. They have no shame, and no brains. The State should not have to put up with this shit.

At this point I don't even know who's more fucking stupid - antivaxxers, or people who actually think the government controls the weather.

They are both equally stupid but anti-vaxxers also put other people's health at risk. Uber-morons.
